Heat detection/Reading?

I'm looking into upgrading my chameleon's bulb for his basking area since i am officially moving on from a double dome, and was told that a regular household incandescent (not LED) bulb around the range of 40-100 watts works fine in terms of heat, but i currently do not own anything besides a temperature gun and a generic humidity and temperature dial, and was curious if there was a better item that I should look into getting that helps figure out what the temperature of a specific area is? (basking area)

Digital thermometer with probe. There are dozens available for under $10 thru Amazon.

Chuck the dial gauge; they can be as much as 20°/20% off.
You can also get combination hygrometer/thermometer with probe for around the same cost as a thermometer.
