I was wondering if it is safe too put the fixture on top of aluminium mesh cage? I've been suspending it above the cage just in case cause idk how safe it is before melting
I wouldnt do it. My chameleon burnt his belly when climbing upside down on the top side while I had the heat lamp two inches above the screen mesh. :-\
Never put the lamp directly on the screen/mesh of the cage. It can damage the screen/mesh and it will create an area that is way too hot and will burn your cham.
You don't want to risk a burn. Take a thermometer or temp sensor and place it at the screen directly under the heat lamp. It its high 90s or over 100 its way too hot.
Chams don't need super high basking areas. They can lighten and darken themselves to increase thermal uptake.
Temps over 100 can lead to thermal burns.
And remember. Even if your cham has never gotten burnt. Its always ok until it isn't...
