I want to buy a heat pad for the crix I will be buying. They will be in a 10 gallon tank for now. I'm reading up on how everyone is raising their's and I guess I would like to move the heating pad to that as well so any suggestions? What wattage? who's go 'em? Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of heating crickets... Might just make them smell really nasty ewww hehe Gutloaded should be all u need

I use a standard sunbeam heat pad i got from walmart. it retails for 10 bucks. It has three heat settings. low med and high. I just put that under my rubbermaid container with my crickets and with my roaches.

The only time you usually need to heat crickets is if you intend to breed them. If you just bought them and are keeping them to feed off you can keep them at room temp. 70ish. When breeding them you need to bring the temps up to 85-88ish. If just feeding them off just give them a good gutloading and keep them clean, well as clean as possible, and dont forget the water source. I just started using that water gel stuff and it is awesome. If you want to breed them check out wormman.com i believe. Lots of info.

Well just in case he wants to keep them outside ya know. I don't keep mine inside. and outside in the garage it is very cold. Temps at night drop to 40 or so.

You guys and gals always come throu for me! I plan on breeding them if not roaches, i'm seeing alot of comments about smell and noise:eek:, with my schedule running to the store will not be easy. I live in New Orleans and all the stores are on the out skirts which means 30+ minutes in traffic while trying to run a business. My wife is excited to help with the chams but for medical reasons her driving is limited and no night driving so breeding is the best option right now.

Another question:

What style and brand thermostats are best.
I wanna be able to maintain the correct temps.

I use regular heating pads under my cricket container. However, some of the new ones have an automatic shut off after a couple hours. I defeated that problem by putting it on a timer. It cuts off just before the automatic cut off time and then kicks back on about a half hour later. It's worked great.

You can also get the undertank heater for aquariums and such. Big Apple has some and so does LLL reptile. They don't have cut off times.
