Heat tape experience?

Hi,

I am building an incubator and also need to heat my roach tubs. How hot does the heat tape get?

Can I attach it directly to the bottom of my tubs and directly to the inside of my incubator (plastic walls)?

Ive outgrown my small incubator and have been using a regular heating pad under the roaches but my set up is now changing.

All will be controlled by a Herpstat controller.

Thanks!
Jason

The herpstat is a great way to go- I use that brand too.

Without the controller the heat tape can burn itself up. That is too hot for most surfaces. But the controller will keep it the correct temperature. If you have it set for example 83 for your incubator or whatever and 90 for your roaches- the tape will really be 83 or 90- not hot enough to cause problems for the surfaces. Be sure to tape your probe directly to the tape securely so it cannot come loose.

I use tons of heat tape/flexwatt. I use some with a thermostat and some without any control. The maximum temp I have found it gets without any control is 128 degrees. That is at least the highest temperature I have recorded. If you need help I have several threads with info on using it. Feel free to pm me if I can help as I've learned a few tricks after using it so much.

Ps I used it to build an incubator as well and love it,I have baby's hatching now in it!!!!
