heater for mistking

Does anyone think it would be possible to use this heater to heat the water from the Mistking? Its an external heater that would heat the water as it passes through it just before it is sprayed.

I was actually trying to think of a way to keep my water warm as well. I've mixed a gallon of room temp water with a gallon of boiling water a few hours before the next mist and it comes out.....well too cold. Would freak me out if I was a Cham.

I wonder how long it takes to heat the water being that the mister will be turning off and on in intervals as opposed to being on constantly like an aquarium filter would? I hope that made sense, lol.

So, I am thinking like a horsewoman ( cause I know wwaayyy, more about horses than I do Chams!) They make water heaters for horses drinking buckets cause they drink less when the temps are cold, so would it be possible for say, AquaZamp or mistking to make something similar? A submersable water heater for the smaller misting systems, or am I thinking its late and im way to out of the box?!

i was thinking the same thing, how do i heat the water...the only thing i came up with is an aquarium heater,a submersable kind..i have a monsoon and the water comes out room temp in the mist but my chams will wait for it to stop misting then zoom past where the mist reaches, its kinda funny to see them move so fast but i also dont blame them,i dont like being sprayed with room temp water so i cant expect them to like it,im gonna go buy a submersable aquarium heater and give it a try..cant hurt as my hand mister has hot water in it and it comes out luke warm when sprayed...:D

heating water for misting systems is a tricky matter.... There are many discussions on this forum about it. The bottom line is, is it worth it?

Mist generally freaks out chameleons at first. But some learn to deal with it... others don't. I find it is best to make rain int he cage.

the thing about having warm mist is that you need to get the water temp up pretty high. a fish tank heater will not do this. Someone posted on here a DIY using a coffee maker heater. which is great.... BUT... cost effective? and.... the types of fittings used in systems like my AquaZamp system lose pressure capacity as the temp rises. My fittings are temp and pressure rated at least.... mist king I have no idea, I've never seen anything listed on their site. So even if you did get the water 'hot' enough to make warm mist you'd have to be sure that the fittings didn't separate under the heat and pressure. You could use copper tubing and fittings I guess.

Thank you Kevin, now if I could just get that raindome in black :)
I know, stop buggin' me, you aren't getting a black dome!

Just throwing this out there.... why not paint it? Or make your own version? I know my crested gecko LOVES the raindome over his cage. It freaked my little male out and my female literally runs under it to "shower" but not drink lol

I guess the big question is it worth it?? I personally don't think it's necessary to mist with heated water. All my reptiles have been misted w/ room temp water for the longest time w/ no issues. Maybe heated water if your trying to raise the humidity higher?? I could also just be missing the benefit here on why one uses heated water? haha Im no geologist but im taking an educated guess that the rain fall in their natural habitat might just reach room temp. Cant see it going much higher then that. (ps room temp to me is 70 ish:D)

its kinda ghetto but i use a heat pad. one from zoomed the biggest one i wrap it around the bucket i keep my water in. it only rasies the mist tempature by a few degrees, but it is warmer.... just not much.

I'd just use room temperature warm, but a aquarium heater would work fine too. But your only gonna get it up another 10 degrees. The rain in the jungle probably it's more then 70 when it hits the trees.

I would think that rainwater is relatively cool as it is produced high in the atmosphere. I'm no meteorologist though.

I refill my bucket every morning with as hot of water that my bath tap puts out. When i get home from work at night the bucket is still warm to the touch. With the warm water both chams run under a nozzle every morning and get all warmed up (my first mistking is 10 minutes long 15-20 minutes after "sunrise") If i leave water in there from the day before its cold to the touch and they both turn black and hide

I've been to the Amazon several times and the rain is cold. The whole forest is cooler after the rain.

...a fish tank heater will not do this.....
I have a 300 gallon reef tank and an Ebo-Jager 300 watt can heat the up to the point it will kill all the fish and be very warm to the touch. I think one of these in a 5 gallon reservoir would heat it pretty quick.

I used a aquarium heater for a little while until the bucket drained low enough that when I re-filled the heater cracked. Didn't get the water very hot at all.

Cian, go to AquaZamp.com you can see a pic there. It kinda looks like the bottom of a 1/2 gal milk jug with a " rain" system in it. Sits upside down on top of your cage giving it a "raining" effect. Works for drinking and humidity and a shower (if you provide the shower cap!)__
