Hello , from a newbie , with a picture of our new Guy..

Hello everyone... We are new here, and are about to become 1st time Cameleon CareTakers. We have been tossing the idea around for quite a while and have been studying heavily for about 4 months. After meeting up with a fellow Saltwater reef guy who was looking for a home for his 4.5 yr old Veiled Cham we decided to take the plunge. We have gained a bunch of knowledge from this site and look forward to becoming active members and hope to contribute down the line. We wanted to pop in and say hello and introduce ourselves.

We have more than a few Reef tanks that have been set up for a few years loaded with fish and corals. We also have a Bearded Dragon Female that is beautiful. I (Eric) used to be a Leopard Gecko , and Bearded Dragon Breeder/hobbyist..Took some time off from that and then took on our bearded as a rescue...We also have a cat that thinks she's a dog... ... and now ....

Welcome and Good Luck with your new guy he's really a fine looker! I like his coloration, almost orange. He's getting to be an old timer too 4.5 years he must be pretty healthy. Do you know if he has ever bred?

This guy has not ever bred to my knowledge. I am pretty sure I asked but will make sure I ask again.

He is getting to be an old timer for sure... Initially his age was a concern for us , but after seeing his pictures we felt that he just looked so regal we couldn't say no. We think he is handsome ..... We are both very comitted to giving him the best possible care we can provide...

His current owner is a very knowledgeable guy , and from our conversations we are confident that he has taken extra good care of him.

Well from what I have read the average life span is about 6 years but I have heard of some people on here having chams live up to 8, I think I saw it once.

After finding out about the life span , we are commited to see how long he can thrive. He has his first visit to a herp vet about 2 weeks after coming home.

I will be building a custom enclosure in the next few months and will definetly be posting pictures and a build log as it comes along..Also once that enclosure is up and running for this guy , I will have an extra empty enclosure ... wonder what I will put in it ? lol ..Sure I will find something ...

You should think about getting a female and breeding that fella. Keep that nice bloodline going.

Well I will definetly think about it ...Just not sure about finding him a female around here..no reputable breeders , and the local pet stores aren't worth my business , as they are all suspect in thier care of animals.

Welcome Newbie

Welcome to the group! He is stunning and looks like a king. Almost all my chameleons arrived UPS overnight. Good breeders know how to ship with no harm to the reptile. If you find a girl worthy of your king somewhere else, don't hesitate to have her shipped to you. He is marvelous!
