hello i recently got a panther chameleon and noticed yesterday he was opening his mouth during the day a little bit. As soon as i saw that he was doing that i took him to the vet. They told me it’s nothing to worry about that he’s just constipated. they did an Xray on his lungs, checked it with a some type of medical instrument listening device. they told me he looks really healthy. She let me know just give him more opportunities to drink and mist the bugs with some water and he’ll be okay. Maybe i’m paranoid but he did it again today. does this sound right? I keep the humidity during the day between 40-50 and the night is 70+. I give him dubias, crickets, mostly and soldier flies. once in a while horn worms, i feed him calcium without d3 every day except on the 1st and 15th of the month.

What are your temps at? He doesn’t have his nose titled up like you typically see with RI. They will open their mouths to cool off if they get too hot.

I recently found out that mine does the same when he gets too hot so he could be overheating under the lamp. If you are unable to lift the lamp a bit I recommend moving it to the side of the cage where it forces him to go to a lower branch to get under the heat or maybe lower the branches too.

i’m using a temp gun and okay will do
Probe thermometers are more accurate from what I have read here. So it may be a few degrees off. You can get them pretty cheap. I think I got a 2 pack from Amazon and I have one on his basking branch and one in the middle of the enclosure. PLUS it also measures humidity. If adjusting the light does not seem to work, let us know and we can go from there. ☺️

My male panther was doing this a long while ago and it was recommended to me to drop his basking temps from 85f down to 80f. I did that and it stopped almost completely. He's been great ever since. It could be something different of course, but to me it really looks like the same issue. It looks like it's just a little too hot. Worse comes to worst lowering to around 80f could at least rule that out.
