Help. Is there any hope for her?

Hi, I have a female veiled which I got in September of 2008.

Anyways, things have been great with her, and she layed about 54 eggs in around August!

She started acting strange again sometime in October, and I didn't think anything of it until I came here and someone said she's going to lay more eggs?? Anyways, she acted that way for about 2-3 weeks before I actually got her some sand. .

..but once I did, she stopped acting strange, didn't dig, didn't lay anything..
Is she eggbound? I don't know what to do, and I have absolutely zero money for a vet, and today her eyes are sunken in...

I would advise you to talk to the vet to see if some payment plan could be worked out. If you can't afford to take an animal to the vet, then perhaps you should give it to a rescue so it can be looked after and not just left to die?

You said..."she acted that way for about 2-3 weeks before I actually got her some sand"...the container of sand should have been left in the cage from the time she reached sexual maturity onwards....it should never be left out of the cage IMHO for longer than it takes to dig up eggs and then put it back.

well eyes sunken is dehydration. wich means vet. im not a expert on eggs so.... but there not disposible ( like anoles...jk) and need alot of care and atention.

One thing you could do to start off would be to give her a shower. If you put a large plant in the shower and turn the shower head so that it hits the wall and splashes on the leaves, you can put her on the plant and let her drink. Make sure the water is luke warm. This could help with her hydration for now but more information will be needed. Soak her in the shower for 10-30 mins depending on how often she drinks. If she is still drinking let her finish till you are sure she is not drinking anymore.

Please dont take anything that anyone says on here as a treatment as it is not. These are just things that MIGHT help her... They are no excuse for vet care and treatment. If she is eggbound, chances are she will die without vet care. Try to make some sort of payment plan so that she can recieve vet care for her problems. There is no excuse for you not taking her to the vet.

OOOst16 said...:eyes sunken is dehydration"...while sunken eyes can be from dehydration they can also be an indication of impending death from a multitude of reasons....so although showering won't hurt it won't solve the sunken eye problem if it comes from something like eggbinding.
