New Member
Hi, I'm a new chameleon owner I've had my cham Abudakai for almost 3 months. I'm not sure how old he is but I'll post some pictures. I know not all chams are good with handling but even when I go to his cage he gets real straight like a stick. He never has a fully curved tail unless he is sleeping also he goes back to his green colors. Does he just really hate me or is he just scared?

He appears to be a little sickly looking, maybe mbd. I could be wrong. I'd wait for a more experienced member to comment. Some chameleons just really hate any interaction.

I don't think he has MBD but I could be wrong also. He looks to have burned a his back at some time. More pictures of his back would be needed to see for sure. Like hagmegsis said some chams don't like interaction

If it was "hate" he'd be threatening you and bluff lunging, mouth open, puffing himself up, and gaping. Because he's trying to look like a stick, he's being shy. Some chams are more shy than others. Don't take it personally at all. They vary a lot in personality. If he feeds out of a dish, you could try holding the dish with favorite feeders in your hand very quietly, and see if he tries shooting at one. Slow and patient and he'll learn that you are not a threat.

Thanks everyone. The last two pictures are from maybe 2 weeks after I got him so for sure he's gotten bigger. He has already gone through a shed and it went very well. I think who ever raised him didn't really mist him to make the process easier because he has no back spikes and has one claw on each foot so he can't climb like a normal Chams can. I'm setting up a lager cage with a back drop he can climb on so a least if he's feeling a certain way he can go anywhere in the cage.

I think he'll enjoy and feel safer with lots and lots more leaves and plants for him. I like all the vines and sticks you have for him to climb on. More leaves will allow him to have some privacy and also will allow him to peek out at you and get more used to having you around without him feeling so "out there in the open" (vulnerable). Good luck with the feeding cup as suggested by Carlton.
