Hibiscus dropped leaves

My hibiscus dropped all its leaves. Is it safe to say it's a gonner now? It really didn't last long at all and I loved that plant :(

I had the same problem! Mine never last long either. The people at Lowes told me that the kind of light I use inside for the chams, isnt the right kind of light they need, and they also are supposed to have a lot of fertilizer.

If you can bring it back, let me know how you did it!

I use a Hibiscus in my setup with really no hassle. The trick to keeping it alive is to not use it. Confused? Don't be. The best way to keep a Hibiscus alive is to have 2 (or more) and keep them in rotation, one outside rejuvinating, one in the enclosure. Works like a charm!

doesn't changing them round and moving them cause to much stress for the plant due to ever changing light and heat conditions?

I've done it all year with little to no repercussions. I'm sure its not the life their meant for but it works for me. I switch on every other cage cleaning, so every 2 weeks they get switched.

Florida must be nice!!!!!!! Sometimes living in Missouri really sucks! Your way would work for me about 5 months of the year!!!!!!

yea i guess that location does play a big part, sorry! On a bright note, the Home Depot down the road from me actually has Hibiscus on sale for $5!! You should check your local H.D.

You need to make sure that it gets sunshine through a window. Water it until you see a bit of water coming out into the saucer, then wait 5 days and do it again. If you take your leafless plant out of the enclosure, put it in a window and water it this way, you may see some leaves coming out again in about 2-3 weeks. My chams ate mine down to nothing and I did what I suggested to you and sure enough I saw some little green sprouts coming out of the sticks. If you haven't let the thing dry out so the branches are dry then you should be ok. It will take awhile to come back.

wish i could try switching plants out. 10 mins on a young plant in this desert heat causes it to wilt and die.

England is way to wet and cold for it to survive outside. I will try the window method. I don't know if it is but it looks as if my hibiscus is trying to grow new leaves, this is inside my veileds enclosure. What do you recomend I do?

Chams love to eat hibiscus leaves, so until you have a enough full grown leaves for a meal, I would take it out of the enclosure.

Ficus and Pothos work very well in your inside enclosures. They do not require allot of sun and handle all the water from the dripper and misting very well. Jann

Yeah i've got pothos and ficus benjamina. Would love hibiscus. I think im just going to buy some fake flower/plant things and stick them in a pot. Would look quite cool.

Not to be pushing one store over another but I just bought some plants for my enclosure yesterday at Lowe's and they are having a 75% off sale on their tropical plants. I got some palms and umbrella plants for $2.50 each!

Score! I just go to Home Depot cause I have one of their commerical credit cards. The plants and equipment might be going into my chams cage but its "for business" so I write it off.....dont't tell! ;):D

With the proper light and moisture, you should see emerging leaves in 2 weeks. It has been 2 months for my totally leafless plant to releaf and there are flower buds on it.

I have killed at least 20 hibiscus in my day...

I hear a lot of talk about home depot and lowes... Did you know that both of these stores have a 1 year warranty on their plants. I didn't find out about this until after I had killed most of them, but if You take a plant that you have bought from them in the last year in dead, they will replace it FREE! Just so you know you don't have to be paying to replace your dead plants, and spending weeks trying to bring back a plant that took about 6 days to die in your cages. I have actually stopped using hibiscus as it is very rarely flowers, and very rarely lives for me.

I use...
Bouganvillia
Ficus Benj,
Pothos,
China Doll (very cool looking plant)
and Schefflera

These tend to thrive with no issues in my cages.

I thought my hibiscus was dead last year but I was too lazy to throw it away. When summer came around this year, I put it outside. Then to make sure it wasn't totally dead, I cut one of the stems to check if water was getting in. After a couple of weeks of watering, It totally came back to life.
