Is that ok for my cham to be under the basking with his eyes closed??
His bask temp is around 80-85, just got him yesterday night. I put the crickets in there but he didnt seem to be happy, or eat them. Just let him settle down or what?

chamys should never had their eyes closed during the day, indication that theres somethin really wrong, since you just obtained the animal and already having probs this early, a vet visit would be very important. asap

and more info would be better, age, sex etc...

Sometimes when I get a new chameleon, the place I got it from had a different light schedule (lights on and off at a different time than the chameleon was used to)...if this is the case for yours, it might just be that the chameleon needs to get used to the new schedule. However, if its doing it when the lights would have been on before, then its not likely a good thing.

the chamy will hide from you until he gets used to you or starts to trust you, in your case he doesnt know who you are and your watching him and its freakin him out. ive learned with my new chamys that you need to leave em alone to eat and drink if they are trying to hide from you. or they will put their attention on you and not their food. u need supplements!!!!!!! do some research on gutloading and dusting with correct supplements/schedule.

got pictures?

My jackson occasionaly basks and will close his eyes for a bit...not all day mind you. He is like any cold blooded animal, they absorb heat from its source. If he sleeps all day...bad. But an occasional snooze is fine. Too many people on these forums go off what their "chams for retards" book tells them. They are like us, they have personality. Just observe his/her routines and you can be the judge of what is "normal" behavior. Use the banter here as a guideline, not gospel.
