Home Made Stick Insect Enclosure

I just finished sanding the lid for my stick insect enclosuere that i made out of an old, little nightstand sorta thing (Im sure its gotta be 10 yrs old.. or more) I am no carpenter as you can see below, but i feel i did alright, and it will definately work, i checked over EVERYTHING looking for holes in the enclosure.. What do you think of it? Its dimensions are... Length 26 x Width 17 x height 13 (Wierd dimentions) But i have a 3 foot high x 20 x 20 Inch enclosure for the adults. The small one will be for the babies, and eggs..

Heres the enclosure, what do you think of it?

It cost me about $5 - $6 to make, the night stand was free, and the mesh im gonna say was 4.00 - 5.00 and then staples about $1 worth

I am only 15 - dont have much 'Carpentry' work behind me, but hopefully i can get better.

It looks nice, but don't know anything about breeding and keeping stick insects. I was going to say, those are huge insect eggs. I had to open another window to look at the picture again, to realize those were actually vieled eggs.

Yes they are veiled eggs, stick insects are easy to breed! ive been reading for about 2 months or more now bout them, and am getting some eggs hopefully this week...

Although, with the wood lid, sometime i might custom make a screen lid, so i can put a light there.

Where do you get stick insects (I know you're in Canada, but I think it's illegal in the US). Yeah, I would go with a screen lid as well, for ventilation as well as the light. Congrats on the eggs.

Your enclosure looks good. You have a stick-master in Vancouver, Alex. Look him up on the Phasmid Forum. I would suggest Indian Sticks for feeders.

It is phasmidforum.com Use the green dense "sponge" that the florists use to poke flowers into, to poke your blackberry vines into and they will last WAYYY longer before they dry out. You can get it at florists, or at craft stores like Michaels. Cut the brick to fit into a vase or a plastic container, and fill the vase and brick with water.

Probably wouldnt be illegal but do not go ahead and do it, make sure its legal.

As far as I know, stick Insects are illegal in ALL area of US. They are hardy and very invasive species with the capability to do parthenogenesis.
Given enough time 1 stick insect (no need for a mate) can turn into 200 - 300 sticks.

I read that they lay upto 100 each?

if i buy 10 sticks, that 1000 per 3 months.

4000 per year... Ill have to Kill the sob's

i got 3 stick insects and then they started breeding, then i had so many i had to start feeding thm to my chams! lol
