Homemade Vines

I saw some homemade vines on other sites and they are using Peatmoss. Is that harmful to Chameleon's? Thanks

could you describe the process? peat moss is heavily used in the hobby, especially for esthetics and DIY decors. how it is applied, and if the animal has access to the risks it may pose, is what will determine if its safe or not.

I've made vines for my geckos before using nylon rope and coating it in aquarium silicone then covering it in peat, It has been used in geckos and dart frogs but I'm not sure about chams

doesnt sound bad. if your useing it for PDF than i dont think it would cause harm to a cham unless they try to eat the vine. id make it and monitor it for a while.

Yeah, the silicone comes in the tubes that you put in a caulk gun and I'll have gloves on of course cuz its a mess. I'll get a 2 buckets; 1 for coating with silicone and the other for coating in peat or dirt, eco earth whatever... I'll squirt a bunch of silicone and just cover the rope in it very good and then just drop it in the bucket with peat etc... and just shake it up and make sure its covered then leave in there to dry! Sometimes you miss spots with silicone or its not thick enough so you gotta do touch ups. I learned this from a guy thats a legend in dart frog vivariums, he has a build somewhere that shows this, I'll try to find it

Thanks for this! Does it need to be silicone sealant or can you use just caulk?

I would use silicone, just because everyone in the herp world uses silicone and it has never had any concerns with health once it is dry, The kind I use you can get at any hardware store, either GE Type I or Type II
