Hood problem or bulb problem??

Ugh. I ordered a zoomed hood from LLL and an Arcadia 12% from LYR and my freaking light won't turn on. It doesn't matter what brand bulb you use as long as it fits, right? Any suggestions on how to tell if it's the bulb that's faulty or the hood that's faulty?

Lightly shook bulb and didn't hear any rattling like standard bulbs do when they break.

If you stick one end of the bulb in, and press your thumb against the other end, with the fixture on, does it shock you?

No, dont try that. Really, just joking.

Anyhow.

I believe those bulbs you have are HO. High Output.

Its likely that you have a normal output fixture.

You will need to upgrade the fixture, or downgrade the bulbs. :(

So when I was younger, I worked as an electricians apprentice.

We were installing some new lights in a grocery store, and I was finishing it all off with new bulbs. Doesnt get much easier.

Anyhow, I cant get this one bulb to go in, and I grab the end opposite that of the one Im forcing in, making sure to place my thumb across the two prongs so I can push really hard on the bastard, and.....zwapf! My hand contracted, crushing the bulb in my fist. Blood EVERYWHERE, all over the deli meats. :p Poor old lady was a few feet away from me, and wasnt expecting such excitement.

Good learning experience though...

Ha! I'll try to avoid that.
