Hornworms out of food? Try green beans

So my hornworms ate all their food and were looking a bit, well, dying. Hated to let them waste like that so I threw in whatever I had on hand to see if they would eat it. Turns out they will eat raw green beans, and are back to looking robust again! I sliced them down the middle long ways and gave them the halves so they had a raw edge to gnaw on. Since Norman is on a hunger strike, and I am on a hornworm feeding strike until he eats his crickets (like being a mom all over again), I'm glad to have found a solution! Hope green beans aren't chameleon toxic!

I have to say, mine did not actually thrive on green beans for long. or carrot. they eventually grew a sickly color and quite weak, and some developed wet stool. I threw them away.

Fun fact: when I bought my first cup of hornworms, I thought the chow was just to get them through shipping. So I put my normal cricket/superworm/bsfl gutload in the container and they ate everything and shit so much the bottom of my cricket keeper was covered.

They poop so much.... Im glad my cham doesnt eat hornworms. They grow too fast, eat too much, and did I mention they poop alot... lol

When I'm out of hornworm chow, I feed mine sweet red, yellow, or green pepper. While they don't retain the beautiful blue green coloration, Luck eats them all the same.
