Chameleon Info:

  • Your Chameleon – Male Veiled Chameleon, unsure of age- he is small so he is still young, been in my care since February 5th 2017 (not even two weeks yet, eek!)
  • Handling – Very rarely- once and it seemed to really stress him out so I quickly put him back.
  • Feeding – Feeding crickets, I put 10-12 in a cup for him in the morning there is usually a couple left at night but not always. I also occasionally put some mealworms in a cup for him. Recently tried giving him some apple, he so far seems uninterested. I am feeding my crickets ‘Mazuri- Better bug gut loading diet’ as well as apples and spinach and some Zilla cricket drink.
  • Supplements – I am currently using Zoo Med Repti Calcium without D3, a light dusting with each feeding. I also have exo terra multi vitamin to use 2x a month. When I run out of the Zoo Med Calcium I have exo terra calcium without D3 to switch to.
  • Watering – I have the little plant dripper that runs all the time. I hand mist him and the cage in the morning and in the evening with enough time for the set up to mostly dry before the lights go off and once or twice during the day. I mist for a minute or two, until everything seems pretty saturated, my chameleon doesn’t seem to care for mistings, always heads to the corner and hides in a plant. I have never actually seen my chameleon drink.
  • Fecal Description – His poop seems fine, brown pellet shaped like the pictures of good poop I’ve seen on the forums. His Urates are usually white once there was an orangeish tint to the end of it so I tried misting more often, his most recent looked ok. He has been pooping once a day or once every other day. I got him from a pet store so I am not sure if he has been tested for parasites. I have not taken him to a vet, however I do know of a vet in the area that sees reptiles should a need arise.
  • History – purchased him from Petco, don’t know much more than that.

Cage Info:

  • Cage Type – Zoo Med Reptibreeze screen cage 16x16x30. I plan to build a larger cage sometime within the next couple of months
  • Lighting – Zoo Med Reptisum 5.0 UVB bulb and Zoo Med Daylight Blue Reptile Bulb 60W for basking. I have the lights on a timer, they turn on at 8:30am and turn off about 9:00pm.
  • Temperature – The highest basking spot usually measures about 82-85 degrees. Bottom of the cage is 71 degrees. The overnight temp doesn’t get below 68. I have a probe thermometer that I usually keep in the basking area.
  • Humidity – Freshly misted my humidity measures about 80% and drops to about 60% inbetween misting. I have three plants that help hold in humidity, them combined with misting help maintain the levels. I have a round humidity gage I got from the pet store to measure humidity.
  • Plants – Live plants are the best! I currently have a hibiscus plant, pothos and a schefflers trinette- which I believe is the Hawaiian umbrella plant.
  • Placement – The cage is located in my room. Not a high traffic area. I do have a cat that uses the room to eat but I have not yet seen her show any interest in the chameleon cage as she cannot easily get near it. I do sometimes use the ceiling fan. Top of the cage is 58 inches from the floor.
  • Location – I am located in Florida! Where I live right now I do not have the opportunity to have a space outside for him (it’s a condo community and they are strict uptight old people) but I hope to move within the next year and an outside area will be on my must have list!

Current Problem - Just want to make sure I am not doing anything blatantly wrong. Also I think he may be able to shed? He is a bit duller in color than he was when I first got him and he has a couple small white spots, I think you can see one on his forehead in one of the pictures (all these pictures are from this morning) and he keeps rubbing against the leaves, not constantly but enough that I have noticed! Thoughts on that?

Thank you for any insight! :)
