ive only had him a week, and he eats out of the cup when i hold it, and he's been eating normal amounts every other day(about 8 or 9 for a xanth, right?), he ate nothing yesterday, and i didnt have enough time to coax him to eat this morning, so i left his cup in there while i was at school with 9 crix. i came home and they were all gone! but he seemed to be in the same spot he was this morning..and i didnt see any roaming his cage...how can i be sure?

you cant.
but if you gave him food, and he was hungry, and you cant find the bugs, then he more than likely ate.

and even if he didnt eat any, and all the bugs escaped his cage, he will still be ok.

He probably is eating, especially if the sides of the cup are tall and smooth enough that the crix can't climb up. Sometimes though they can catch an antenna on their tongue whilst eating another cricket and thus the other cricket may fall to the floor or get flung out of the cup. I found 2 little crickets in the plant container when I cleaned Monty out the other day. It's great that he will eat from the cup though! Sounds like he's settling in nicely!

This is one of the reasons i hate Crickets. They will jump out of feeder cups.

well its all ive got at the moment :p ive offered superworms, but he seems uninterested as they may be too large :/ same thing with some small hornworms..might just go to the pet store tonight and get some smaller superworms and mealworms..

it sounds cruel..but if i'm cup feeding crickets and i need to leave, i usually remove their back legs so they can't jump out.

i free range my crix because i think the chams get a more natural way to hunt

just a suggestion but if your cage is secure and no holes, everything is fine than, for sure he ate them

how i set up my encloures is that i have one main plant inside on a little stand so crix wont try to hide underr the potted plant , either in the middle or in a corner of the cage, the rest of the cage should be rather bare, nothing but branches to climb around, with all that empty space and easy view, you and your cham can see everything within the cage.

and presto, just dump crix in the cage, and watch him hunt as he pleases.
you can even add a little carrot or something on the bottom of the cage floor so crix will be out in the open for your cham to see

chameleons have their designated spot in the cage. my chameleon loves hiding out in the top right where some fake leaves are. she's there almost all the time.

if theres no food then she ate and went back to basking
