How Do I tell if I have a Male or Female Panther

Hi, Im new to the site and new to owning chameleons. My wife finally let me get a Panther Chameleon and i have obsessed with it, one of my all time favorite pets now. When we got it, the pet store told us that it was a cross between a blue bar and a red bar panther. Now after reading so much more about them online and I find that I dont know what region it is from. So how do I tell if I have a male or female? And how do I tell what region it has come from. It was a captive breed from what I got from the pet store as well, it loves the cage setup I have it in and it is about 3.5 months old. I can see red bars through the body, tail, and spikes along its back. I have noticed that when it is on the biovine i have in the cage, the bars and spikes it will turn black to blend in. Thanks for any advice in advance!

Where are you located? The best thing to do right now is get a few good photos of the chameleon and post them. It is difficult for someone to explain how to tell without something to compare to. What pet store did you purchase it at?

Im in Orlando, FL, I got him at Ron's Pets because I know the guy really well and he is friend, they got the chameleon from a breeder in California that they have had a lot of sucess with over the years with good healthy chameleons. As for pictures, either on my lunch break or after work tonight I will post a few pictures.

Blue or red bars typically correspond to Ambilobe, I think. Possibly also to Ambanja, but I know less about that locale. So you can expect it to be either one of those, but I'm not completely possitive.

Also, I've been told that female panthers never display red. So if the red you're seeing is really red then you probably have a male. But it's tough to tell without photos.

If it is a boy, you will see a bulge forming right near his vent on the base of the tail. You can search it on the forums and try to compare with what others have said with your little one. The best way to find out is to post pictures of the he/she from the side, with the tail out straight. That is the best photo angle for sexing.

Im in Orlando also. I sold some of my panther offspring to Pet Bazaar but I've never heard of Ron's pets.

I was just in Pet Bazaar last weekend, Ron's Pets is up at Flea World in Sanford on 17/92, Vernon who used to own his own pet shop works for Ron there and Ive known him for awhile now, he really has earned my trust. I will post some pics tonight.

I just started a new thread with posted pictures under the thread titled "Help me Identify my Panther" so thank you guys a ton for all the help and information.

Your chameleon is a hybrid ambilobe. There is a slight chance it is ambanja but the only way to find out for sure is to know what the parents are.

Most panthers are the same i'm pretty sure when it comes to sexing them. Females display very neutral colorations like brown, some orange, white, and red only under their beard. They will never display the bar color which tells me your chameleon is most definitely a male. Also check for a small bump under the tail, that means it is a male for sure.

Can anyone help me figure out if this baby panther is female or male???

As stated in previous posts, if it is a male there will be a bulge after the vent at the base of the tail. Yours looks like the tail is skinny and straight.
