How many mealworms a day?

Baby Lobie

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how many mealworms should i feed my baby a day?.. The chick from Petsmart told me that they are high in fat so they are to b treated as junk food and given sparingly.. is this true? (I dont really trust Petsmart employees) Thanks guys!

Mealworms are indeed high in fat and should be used more like treats rather than as a major feeder. Better options for regular feedings include crickets, roaches, hornworms, silkworms, superworms (these are a little fatty too so dont use excessively,) mantids, and stick insects. Variety is key and ideally at least 5 feeders should be used to prevent bordom with food and for better nutrition. Dont forget to gutload well with a quality dry gutload and fresh fruits/veggies.

What species if chameleon and how old is it?

anyone have an answer?

Theres your answer :)

Me personally i'd only feed 1-2. Just stick with dubia roaches & crickets. Gutloading is a must with these two, also offer hornworms, silkworms, phoenix worms, etc. Mealworms are hard to digest and they really don't offer much other than fat. A super worm is pretty much the same, but it's allot heartier.

Variety is key. If you stick with just one, they can go on foodstrikes and get bored and not eat them at all.

For mealworms then 2 a day is fine for a growing boy who is enthusiastic about his other feeders as well, I also wouldn't recommend any more.
P.s. - The chick from petsmart is now well informed and giving good advice!?!?! Wonders will never cease......:D
Here are a couple of great blogs on gutloading and feeder options - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/75-feeder-nutrition-gutloading.html

Yeah, I was told about this forum from a Petsmart employee who definitely knows his stuff! (couldn't believe it myself) ;)

ps Happy B-Day Dave!
