How often to feed him?

Hi guys!

I've heard once they get older, you only need to feed chameleons every other day. At what age do you do that? Or do most of you just feed them every day? Espio is a 6 month old boy veiled chameleon. Right now he eats about 15 crickets a day. At what age should I start feeding him every other day?

Thanks!
Jen

I would say around the 1 year old mark to start paying closer attention to the amount of food. You can jump to every other day at that point if you wish but I like to watch each one individually as they all grow at different rates and different sizes.

If you are feeding 15 feeders a day, you will know when his eating slows down. All my chams have slowed down around 9-14 months of age. Some of my lazier individuals will only eat 3-5 large food items every other day.

After they reach a year old, I feed every other day.
Past 3 years, maybe 3 times a week.
My jax will only eat 2 good size roach every 3 days, I offer more, but he wont eat it.
My oldest veiled is a bit more active, and he will eat several cricks in one feeding, plus a little Romain.
He is about 3 years old also.

Under 6 months, I give them something in the morning, then their main dinner in the afternoon.

They nearly always have little cricks in their cages, hidding in the corners, and they snack on them durring the day while I an at work.
I keep a bird feeder in the cages with food for the cricks, that way they stay gut loaded.
