Is there any way to age a vieled chameleon? Having just adopted one and learning all about them rather quickly, i would be interested to know how old he is?

post a pic of the little guy/girl and we can guess but they grow at diffrent rates. if its a female (a male has spurs on the back feet) she will need a laying bin for future eggs :)

Sorry about the photo's....Ozzy is still very shy and very very jumpy.

ohh yeah. thats a boy :) sadly i have a female and cant compare sizes to him. he looks 7+ months. thats only a really cruddy guess by someone who hasnt owned a male tho :(

you can tell the age of a maile veiled by

1 its total lenght
2 the size of the casque
3 the amount of color he displays (especially the yellow stripes that become more evident after 5 months or so)

BUT all these factors change A LOT from individual to individual

your cham should be about 6 to 8 old months cause he has great colors but short casque :)

Thanks for the help. I really don't care how old he is but it is nice to know incase he ever needs vet help etc..

for future reference you want to look for an exotic animals vet. not a normal vet. theres a large difference in what the two specialize in. chams are exotic animals

On that vet. Look for one now before you need one. We don't always make the best decisions in times of crisis and having a vet prior to needing one is a good Idea.

Once you find one if you have them do a fecal test, wellness visit they will now have information on your pet prior to being ill/injured, plus they have become their patient and emergency fees usually do not apply. They will typically fit you in at regular prices, because your cham is an established patient of theirs:D:)
