Hi there,

I am trying to get my 7 - 8 month old Veiled male to eat roaches, but he just looks at them and keeps on walking.

He is not into worms of any kind and hates a silkworm, with this in mind, my feeder choices are somewhat limited......

He does eat his gutloaded crickets, about 6 - 10 3/4 crix per day.

Does any one have any suggestions on getting him onto the roaches?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

are you cup feeding them or free roaming? how big are the roaches? are they bigger than his head? if so he isnt going to be able to eat them anyways because he may chock.

If hes eating 6-10 crickets and is drinking and acting normal I dont see why u would need to offer other feeders. Idk I just offer other feeders when my chams refuse to eat crix.

I've found that if they're not introduced to different feeders at an earlier age
they're not as likely to jump ship and try different things on the new menu.

A common trick is to toss a few crickets in with some smaller roaches in the same feed bowl
at least start developing an association between "food" and this new bug.
With any luck they'll hit one and find out that it's tasty.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies.

I am cup feeding and only offering nymphs (lobster roaches), so they are not too big for him.
He has accidentally eaten about 3 roaches, but doesn't seem to like them very much.

I will continue trying to get him to at least try them. I am trying to give him other options to just crix.

Thanks again.

The change would be a good one because roaches are more nutritional and they aren't a pain in the butt like crickets are! That's probably why he wants to make the switch...
