Hello all.
Even though I've been reading this froum for a little while...I finally decided to say hello!
I've been planning to get my first panther chameleon for awhile now, and I'm glad to say I finally received him today!Although he's a bit smaller than expected...=P
he's about 2 inches from head to bum and as cute as a button!(not to mention quite clumsy)I had to gut out my flexarium when i got home with him because he's way to small for it. He's currently in a pastic conatiner with some biovine and leaves..about..11lx7hx6w...sitting in the flexarium so he can still get his basking spot and uvb...my main concern is with eating. I have pin heads for him to eat right now..i tried twice today to get him to eat by putting him in a smaller container with some pin heads but he showed no interest...should i continue to try putting him in a different container for eating..or do you think he would be able to hunt them in his current enclosure?

Thank you in advance for any help!
p.s here's my fave pic of him basking =D

i don't really know anything about baby chameleons, but welcome!

one would think that letting him get used to one thing at a time could be beneficial, so i would try feeding him just where he is? he might be too afraid of a new place to feel secure enough to eat...

my cham is about 5 months, 4" head:bum. i've had him three weeks and my observations of his eating habits are the only thing i can go by! i know that he didn't eat as much at first, and took a while to adjust - he even started part-day fasts and ate only a few crix in the evening. i was making the mistake of keeping a infrared lamp on at night, so i just shut it off and his appetite is now increasing. he eats about 6-8 med-large crix and maybe a couple worms. im not saying that that's what is wrong but maybe is has something to do with his environment. what are your temps? his basking spot shouldnt be too high...
hope i can help a lil :)

yours looked awfully young.
Baby chameleon requires a lot more care than the 2.5 months old or older.
I am a bit wary by the fact that the person sells you that young chameleon.

Is this your first time caring for a chameleon? or are you well versed enough to
care for chameleons?
If it is your first time, I have to say you have a LOT of researching to do.
Chameleon is fragile in this state.
I firmly believe that a beginner in chameleon should always go with 2.5 months old or older.

But, since you already have it.. and i have no doubt you probably already grown attached to this beautiful baby, here is the link for baby basic care.

I hope my post does not sound harsh or anything. but, please do the best you can for the sake of this baby.

Oh.. I also suggest you fed him fruit flies, instead of pinhead.. at least until he's a bit bigger. Perhaps, that is why he ignores the crickets.
Hope that helps.

:)

Congrats on the new panther! I pick up my first Ambilobe male tommorow at 9am from a local breeder and its almost 3am now but im so excited i cant sleep! Give the baby time to adjust to his new environment. Start by puttin a few crickets in a deli cup and leave him alone. Ive notices with smaller chams like ones of your size, they tend to do best if you feed them 4 crickets in the mornging and 4 about 2 hours before they sleep. Keep the cricket quantity the same but increase cricket size as they grow (use the "chams can eat a cricket the same length as their mouth is wide" rule to guide you). Ive never owned a panther that size but my first veiled was 3 weeks old when i got her and i fed her like i described above and she grew soooo quickly. Make sure your using proper vitamins and calcium supplements! Its crucial when theyre that young!
