Humidity level

This may be a dumb question but the humidity level in my Jacksons cage get really high at night at around 85% and between mistings it goes from 50% to 70% during the day. Why does this happen? It seems to me that the humidity would be higher during the day with the mistings and the lights on. I am just curious.

When the lights are on (particularly the basking bulb) the warmth tends to dry out the cage surfaces faster. And, heating creates more air flow off the cage top which pulls air out of the cage. This also speeds up evaporation. At night the air in the cage isn't moving as much, temps are lower which slows down evaporation. The plants may release more moisture at night through transpiration (not sure about that part).

Interesting. I would have thought the evaporation would create a high level of humidity.

Well it does, but if there is airflow moving out of the cage the moisture will also be pulled out and replaced by drier air from the room.
