Hi guys I'm new to the forums.I'm setting up for my first cham and I was just wondering what everyone was using to control humidity and temp. I have looked into spyder robotics herpstat as well as ecozone, but those seem a little spendy, just curious as to what other options there are? I haven't found much else in my research.

Are you looking for how to raise humidity and what we use for setting up lighting and temps or the way in which we measure them? I'll answer both:
Measuring is always best done digitally. I use a temp gun and digital humidity meter.
I use a mist king to raise the humidity automatically and regular house bulbs to raise the temps changing the wattage with the seasons to maintain a similar temperature.

I'm looking for a way to regulate automatically regulate humidity and temperature, I work 10 hours a day so I can't be there to manually mist, and I live in Washington state so temperature fluctuates fairly dramatically, especially at night. I have a mister, I'm just looking for something to plug the heat lamp and mister into that will automatically mist when humidity drops and regulate heat when it gets too hot/cold. *edit* Also I'm looking to get a red bar ambilobe panther.

I would, and do, use a mist king for that. For a panther, it is not so important to keep the humidity constant. You need to make sure that the cage dries out completely between mistings. I would also use an automated dripper to get him drinking water.
The temps need to drop at night, so it is a good thing that the temps vary at night. Where in Washington do you live? If you are in Seattle or somewhere else on the wet side, your humidity is probably perfect as is. Regardless, you should not mist or have lights on at night. No red/blue night lights.
I guess I might just be paranoid about making everything perfect, I live about an hour north of Seattle, I just really have no idea what humidity will be like inside the house. I will just have to get everything set up and get the lights and mister going and see if I can get by with just timers. Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.

I live in Everett and have two panthers in screen cages and am easily able to regulate temperature and humidity by using timers and adjusting bulb wattages and misting schedules.
If your looking at an environment controller just because it is something your interested, go for it. However, it is not required so if you don't want to spend the money you don't have to. You want to have variation in temperatures and humidity to some extent since this is the case in the wild and if the humidity is constantly high the chances of bacteria buildup increases.
One thing I would worry about is heat; if you plan on keeping your chameleon in a room that gets over 80F you will need an air conditioner or similar cooling system. However, if you have a cool basement to keep him in then this is probably not an issue. Because I am currently keeping my panthers in an upstairs room with a south facing window I have had to leave an air conditioner set to 80F for all the heat waves we have had recently.
