Hello!
My 6 month old veiled male chameleon had a massive appetite and loved eating. We almost always capped him at 10 bugs (a mix of both crickets and superworms) because he ate a tone of kale in his enclosure as well. We went away for christmas and left him for almost two weeks with a close friend who took amazing care and sent us updates and asked for input almost every day. During the time he was with our friend, we were told that he seemed to have lost an appetite for crickets over the course of his visit. When we got him back, he had a relatively normal appetite but we stopped bothering trying to feed him crickets because the friend had left a bunch in the enclosure so we figured he would eat those if he wanted some. Over the last week that we have had him back his appetite has dwindled to the point where some days he wont eat anything.
Where he used to eat anything made available to him immediately, he now takes for ever to eat super worms presented to him and the crickets seem to just live among him. His behaviour had seemed relatively normal until yesterday when I noticed him being a little more wobbly when he walked and seemed almost hazy in perception... It really made me sad. I've been trying to present food to him as many times as we can in a day. We even offer it after 3 hours before lights out which we know is bad but would rather him eat SOMETHING than nothing. We are going to try leaving a bunch of super worms in the cage in a little container so he has constant exposure to them. He can be a bit dopey so I'll watch to make sure he doest like walk on one or something and get bit.. Any suggestions? Is this normal?? Will he be okay? He ate a little tiny fertilizer ball from a plant the other day before we could grab it but he did that once or twice before too... AGH I dont know..
