Hurricane is coming.

I live in Louisiana and a hurricane is going to hit us Wednesday. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if the lights go out. I won't have anything to run the lamps or water fall that's in my cage. I'm worried

Oh no! Just be sure to take care and stay safe!

You could mist by hand with a spray bottle. They will be fine without lights for a little while and you may want to see if you can pick up some of those reusable heat pads or hand warmers, the kind with the little metal disk that you click to activate.

I hope it doesn't hit you too bad :(

As a Floridian, I was expectinig Isaac was headed to Tampa today and was thinking about all of this in preparation as you are now.

It is usually sunny just after a Hurricane goes past. Can you take your Cham outside for the day in your enclosure? You should be having the same temps as we are here in Tampa, and I would suspect that would be adequate if only for a few days (assuming you lose power).

Make sure you have plenty of feeders onhand (at least a weeks supply) as you local pet store may not be open if they have damage or power failures.

Be prepared to hand mist if you are currently using a MistKing or other "electric" misting device.

Best of luck to you, your family and your Cham! BE SAFE!

Keep us posted!

Thank y'all for the support! It gets to be about 100 outside and he's only a few months old so I won't be able to bring him outside. I've got plenty of feeders thank god. I'm just worried about the UVB and heat lamp. I'm going to try the heating pads! Thanks so much!:D

You could try to time it to take him out before it gets so hot and after it cools down. Just keep him well misted outside. An hour of natural sunshine will take care of his uvb needs until you have power again.

As someone who lives in a north state that never sees anything devastated by storms I can't imagine the prep process for this. But I'm sending good thoughts to everyone in the south and praying for everyone and every animals safety! :)

Spot on .I would also pick up some extra feeders as others sugested.I would pick up some smaller feeders that can grow a little incase it the shops take longer than a week restocking. In all honesty take care of yourself first!! good luck

Best of luck to you! I am in South Florida and we got hammered with rain and wind and last night. We are still getting slammed with gusts of rain periodically. Keep safe and it will be ok! I have lived through three major hurricanes. It is very scary but just make sure you prepare yourself. As far as your chameleon goes, atleast it is summer and you can get him outside like others have said. Let us know how you are after the storm passes.

Yay! I sat through Irene last year, in a drunken stupor, but the aftermath was pretty scary, and that was just a tropical storm by the time it reached us. Everyone pulls together here, let us know how it goes.

Like laurie said put him outside. He can be in the shade and still get some uvb rays. It should be cool enough if hes in shaded light and in a screened cage for him to go outside for at least 2 hrs a day. Also you can mist his cage heavily when hes out there and that will help with the heat also.

Good luck - just go by what everyone else said. I've been lucky - down here the last major storm we had was 7 years ago, before I got into cham-keeping. Have a squirt bottle on hand - and fill it with water before the storm. Remember that the water after the storm may need to be boiled so I'd fill the squirt bottle ahead of time. You can make a temporary dripper with a plastic cup with small holes cut in the bottom and just take your chams onto your porch if you lose power. Best of luck! :D

Flooded Here

I wish you the best of luck and hope it will miss you completely. We were to the far right of the hurricane when it came by and we are flooded here and I couldn't get out of the neighborhood to take my dog Red for his chemo treatment today. I got him in the car and we both got soaked, drove down to the end of my street and ever way that I looked the streets were under water. The street that I live on you could only see the street in the very center of the road. Well I have a tiny car and was scared to drive through it so I turned around and went back home. Red was so scared from the storm I didn't think I'd ever get him back out of the car. I called and rescheduled his treatment for this Wednesday.

Oh Jann, what awful timing for you and Red!

How is everyone else in the path getting on?

After watching the news last night our area was not flooded nearly as much as some other areas in our county and there's a 60% chance of more rain today. I'm really glad that I didn't try to drive in it. The news showed flooded cars all over the place.

I'm glad you turned around and came back! It would of been horrible for your car to get flooded out and you and Red to be stranded!!! What a mess that would of been!!!!!

That's so scary! It's one thing to be trapped in your house in flood waters, but trapped in your car on flooded roadways is truly terrifying!! Glad you and your pets are safe!
