Hydroton Grow Pebbles

After reading Tom Routhouska article on pygmy chameleon enclosures I went to the pet store to look for hydroton. They were pretty expensive for a little bag. I searched ebay and found that theyre are alot cheaper for a greater amount. My question is are they the same as the one recommended at petstores?
