hygrometer placement?

I'm new to this forum and also new to having a panther cham.have been reading books and looking at your forum since before I got Simmons and set up his cage but am confused as to where the humidity gauge should be placed, does it go up towards the top of the cage where he spends the majority of his time?

I can't speak for everyone but I keep 2 in my enclosures

1. up near the basking spot, so i know how low the humidity is. Because that's where the focused heat is at the humidity is lower there.

2. Down mid way in the midst of my main plant on the wall. This lets me know my highest humidity rating.

I would reckon the best place to measure would be near the basking spot. Because if its 50% there then the RH across the enclosure will usually be higher and no issues with it being to low.

Im not as experienced as most of the forum members, but what i have read is you need at least 1 near the top of the cage, as well as a thermometer there. Then another thermometer near the bottom, but not a second hygrometer. IMO

Sometimes its good to have a 2nd hygro to validate the 1st. People rake the hygrometer as being fact right out of the box and that's a big mistake. Another mistake is assuming because its digital its accurate.

Unless you calibrate a hygrometer or thermometer for that matter your taking the word of a measuring device that was tossed around in shipping and whatever else before it got to you.

I calibrate my gauges but also know that drafts etc... occur in a house from windows doors ac, etc... so what you have at 6ft high in a room is not the same temp/humidity 3ft from the floor always. When you invest the time/money in to a pet whats wrong with $10.00 more dollars to feel safe

As Wykd states, i also run 2 gauges (one towards the top near the basking spot and one towards the bottom). This gives you an idea of the temp levels in the cage , you always want to offer your Cham the option of retreting to a cooler area.
