Current Problem - Initially her colours were fine, however after her 2nd clutch five days after she had laid she had on her right hand side of her face had gone black. It was not there after her laying. We have gone to the vets on the sixth day, a day after noticing it, he said probably a bruise, she looked healthy and there appeared no cuts or infection.

However we have noticed her temperament change, not wanting to come out and also she appears to find it difficult to catch food, often missing them.

I am wondering now if either it is a reaction to the peter mixture I used or it is actually a bruise, (not sure as you can see it appears to be spreading) or she is actually hypermelanistic, which has been triggered from her becoming gravid and laying. This is her second time laying since having her at 6 months old, her first approx. three months ago. It's not a burn as her basking light is not accessible as it is to high for her, plus on the side of neck. Other than the black and temperament change, she seems healthy. Also does not appear to be infected or inflamed. She looks a little dirtier in the one week after, however it does appear to be within her skin layer. I have always noticed that the gaps between her scales and on the gaps on her throat are actually black as well.

I would suggest a bit lower basking temperature for her. Lower temps will be better for her in the long run leading to a longer lifespan. As for the markings, I initially thought it was bruising, but after the second picture, now I am not so sure. What types of additional supplementing did you provide after the egg laying?

I have never heard of a normal chameleon turning hypermelanistic - that's a trait they're born with. It's certainly unusual looking and the fact that it's spreading is concerning. I would recommend a skin biopsy to determine the cause.

Just a quick update, we took her to Manorvets and they have taken her in tonight for a biopsy. Should know in a week.

I'll keep you updated.
