I am in need of some positive vibes...

I found out today that you can supplement properly til' you're blue in the face but even that doesn't guarantee strong bones or a problem free cham! If you have some time please take a read about my Isis, her eggs & bone problem and possible emergency surgery:

We could surely use your positive thoughts, prayers, good mojo or karma or any other positive vibe you have to spare!

Thanks everyone!

Believe me I understand. I have been going crazy trying to understand supplementation, especially with my Jackson. I follow the less is more and he goes down hill, but I am so afraid of over supplementing due to the threads stating that over supplementing Will kill him. Its a nightmare to just want to do the right thing and still be unsure. I am thinking of you and your girl and hoping for the best.

Thanks so much for your encouragement Pigglett, it helps a lot because I am so scared at the prospect of surgery! I am not sure how long you've kept chams but I'm going on 7 years here and I can't believe something like this is happening to my girl - and of course it really makes me doubt everything I am doing for them (I have a 4 y.o. male as well), I am beyond upset!

But yes, I agree...supplementation is such a fine line and playing around with it takes its toll on our babes. I just wish it were black and white...I don't do good with 'grey areas'!

I'm sending good, egg laying thoughts your way!

Also, if you didn't know/didn't do it while she was gravid, be sure to up the calcium intake when producing eggs. I also posted in your other thread, but I suggest asking the vet about oxytocin to induce egg laying in her if he thinks it is appropriate for the situation. If it isnt too late, it could prevent the need for surgery.

Funny thing you should mention 'gravid' Pssh, because the reason I took her to the vet back in November is that she was showing all the signs of developing eggs yet when I put her with my 4 y.o. male she was displaying receptive behavior. If you can believe it, she is STILL showing receptive behavior with Camo - which really has me confused - does this mean that even tho' she's full of eggs and really ready to lay them, that they can still be fertilized by Camo? I had thought once the eggs started to form that she would show gravid behavior but this stage never came! Is this normal? If, she had showed me gravidity at all during this egg development I would have upped her calcium intake but with the receptive behavior all through this clutch I kept the feeders to a minimum to keep the number of eggs down. It's been an extremely confusing and stressful time for me these past 2 months cuz she didn't 'go by the book' as I expected. And honestly my vet is my new therapist! :D He's been a lifesaver and has calmed me down at every visit!!

It's just never cut and dried with our Cham kids, is it?

Nice to have a vet that is knowledgeable and most importantly compassionate. Sending you well wishing and lots of good mojo your way!

Hi Lisa, so sorry to read this...we are wishing Isis the best today! Keep us posted on her progress!

Thanks Julia!! I tried calling you this morning but I wasn't sure if I called too early as no one answered right away (as you usually do) so I hung up after a few rings! I wanted to let you know what is going on with Isis because I wasn't sure if you'd still want to board her with this new problem arising. Either way, I'll give you guys a call this afternoon/evening and we can talk then! Welcome to the Forum! :)

What time are things scheduled for today? Hoping all is well!

Thanks for asking Crocky! I took Isis into the vet early and after some discussion with the doc and after he further reviewed Isis' file he's decided to try two doses of Oxytocin. He will give her one shot this morning and if there's no action he will give her one more dose before leaving tonite. He advised that in his experience the oxy will work during the nighttime hours so if there are no eggs tomorrow morning, he will go forward with the surgery.

So a small reprieve from surgery today but i'm a bit anxious to see if the oxytocin will work! Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts! ;)

I am so sorry to see that this situation may have to come to surgery.. I have been following your thread, but didn't have much to add since I don't have any female cham experience, but I am praying for a happy solution :) I will be sending good thoughts (of a hole full of eggs) your way! Hang in there, Isis is lucky to have you.
