I have a mealybug problem on my ficus, i got rid of them today, but are they okay for the cham to eat? to say if he ate some before i discovered? all they do is eat the tree lol, tiny white cotton looking bugs. .
Sure, mealybugs are edible. Its just that their cottony coating shields them from most predators. Hopefully, you haven't treated the plant with anything super-toxic.
I use Bayer products containing Imidacloprid for mealybugs and scale. Both bugs are very hard to stop with other methods. As it happens, this is the same thing that's in "Advantage" for dogs and cats. Its pretty safe for us and for most animals. Its really bad for insects...
You should be able to clear up the infestation with one treatment, or two at most of Imidacloprid used as a soil drench. There is the Bayer stuff called "Tree & Shrub", and they also make a pill for houseplants. And, several companies now make generic versions that are widely available at a cheaper price.
