I have taken him to the vet MANY times. Today i also noticed him walking on the bottom of his cage. Id like to add that, after a while, hed seem to get better and be 100% cured, but then his eye would be closed again. I havent changed anything from when he was doing fine.

I just threw his poo away a few minutes ago:mad: I was thinking about it...then i just dumped it:(

I hate to hear Loui's eye is acting up again :( If you could please post a picture at your convenience it may be helpful. Was this ever diagnosed as a bacterial infection?
IMO I would shower him and consider substituting H2O with pedialyte for a couple of days. Have you been using, or do you have an ointment or drop for the eye? Does he still get omega-3 every day with that other med?
You also know how I feel about the vit. A.... but I believe that would depend on if the problem is a deficiency, infection, or something totally un-related.
Good luck getting this resolved, you know I really do love your chameleon :)

I'm a little concerned about your supplementation schedule.

Specifically what are you dusting with and what frequency?

What source of D3 and A are you providing ???

How old is your UVB lamp??

Is the UVB lamp a tube or CF bulb??

Im dusting him him Zoo med's reptivite for the vitamin A, and rep cal for the d3 and calcium.

The uv lamp is almost a year old, its a tube.

Ill try to get a pic up in a while. One of the vet visits, she took a culture of his eye and said she found no bacteria or infection. I have gone back to using this type of ointment that i apply INTO his eye through a cathoder(a plastic syringe that doesnt damage the eye.) I am no using the omega 3,i havent used it for a month or so now.

Teramycin works very well for eye problems in my opinion....have you tried it yet? Gentocin works well also...

your regime seems ok....

Personally , I would replace the UVB tube and increase the reptivite. Maybe add a calcium without D3 once a week also.

How long has your reptivite been opened??? After a few months , the vit A could be diminished, from exposure. It doesn't remain potent indefinitely. Otherwise , these items are looking OK.

Alright,i think im going to a pet store today, so ill get a new light and some more reptivite if they have any. I also noticed him walking on the bottom of the cage.

Ill consider it, what do you use to boost up the vitamin A again? I also bought a new thing of reptivite, but it said with d3,and when i looked at my current bottle, the one i had before i bought it,it also had d3,is this bad?

To me it sounds like an infection that he just hasn't gotten over. I had an experience similar to yours where a chameleon appeared to get over a URI and then about a month later it was even worse than before effecting even one of her eyes.

I am sorry but I have been very weary of suggesting vit A, not because I do not use it but because I feel that many people overdose and won't know it until too late. Vit. A deficiency in humans and in other animals is not eye dependent. So why do we always jump to vitamin A deficiency when there is a single eye problem?

This is why I feel it is an eye infection that just hasn't gone away...its like when we get sick and it just hangs around for a while then it popps its head back up. I would suggest Fortaz for a few weeks even after his eye clears up. IMHO

Alright, the next fresh poo he takes,me and my father are going to take it to the vets. How does one get fortaz?

According to Coke, hypovitamosis A can cause occular inflammation and increased infections. Fergusen states that hypovitamosis A can cause eyelid closure and oozing.

This is paraphrased from an article in the Journal of Herptalogical Medicine and Surgery Voume 13 , No.2, 2003.

So clearly no one is jumping on the Vit A bandwagon here. It is probable that the eye issue is related to hypovitamosis A.

Bucky consider discussing this possiblilty with your vet.
