my chameleon is an adult male vieled chameleon and no matter what I seem to do, such as increase ventilation or elevate humidity my chameleon spends a large portion of the day with his mouth open. I was hoping someone could tell me why or offer suggestions to solve this problem? my msn is [email protected] . Adding me on msn to talk it over would probably be better because I seldom visit this site. Thank you... anybody?

mine did that for a part of the day when he was under the basking lamp and then i correctly hit the gauge right and had my temp at 105. lowered the branches and raised the lamp and now he doesnt gape anymore

as stated it could be because of the temp.
if it is too high he will open his mouth, and sort of pant like a dog, soto say.
the same idea really, to release heat.

it could also mean he has an URI. does he crackel, pop, or wheeze?
if he has too mugh humidity you can cause this.

it also could mean that he has mouth rot. mine used to sit with his mouth
open when he wasnt basking and i thought it was URI so i took him
to the vet and i found out that he had mouth rot.

if he does it everywhere in the cage then i would try to listen to him breathe.
if he makes some kind of pop or wheeze then you need to take him to the vet.

also if he has black/brown teeth, or a "cheese" like goo in his mouth he might
have mouth rot so you will also have to take him to the vet.

good luck.
