Ok, so I have been ogging the MistKing systems for a couple weeks and was about to big on one one Ebay but its price is already so close to just getting a brand new one I thought I'd ask the Masses how hardy is the mistkind system when kept outdoors? I will have it protected from the elements in a food safe seeled water bucket. I was going to mount it to the ceiling of the bucket and just not fill the bucket to the top.

So the DIY way of doing this was getting scary just because I was having to check so many plastics and hoses to be sure they're "food safe", many of the stores like Home Depot or Lowe's type home Improvement in my area do not have these types of hoses and such, so if there are easy recommendations to find the right stuff, let me know. Otherwise I kinda gave up there. Lastly I just wanna know that the MistKing will last for at least like a few years if taken care of. It's got good reviews and all but.. You never know till you know! Thanks!

I love my mistking. But, it is a gravity fed pump so you will have to have the water reservoir higher than the pump itself so mounting the pump inside the lid will not work. I have mine inside but I'm sure if you get creative there is a way to protect it outdoors. It will definitely last years of you take care of it.

I agree the Mistking can work if you figure out how to house it correctly. The pump does need to be lower than the waterline in the reservoir. I used Home Depot parts for my outdoor cage. I ran a half-inch black poly irrigation hose into the cage and punched in a couple plant misting nozzles. The other end has an adapter from the poly line to a hose, and then a hose timer at the faucet. It mists for six minutes 3 times a day. I think you'll get a lot more random chemicals from your water supply than from leaching out of the hoses (my opinion). If you're going to use distilled/RO for your outdoor cage, then you will have to adapt a pump system.

All I do for my guys when they're outside for the summer is freeze large buckets of ice and put that on top of the enclosure. Depending on how hot the day is the ice lasts anywhere from 6-10 hours.

I have good luck with a drip system. Cages are screened, with a water capture pan underneath. Submersible water pump, look on ebay. Airline tubing, water flow controlled with a plastic valve- also sold for air control. Pumps are submerged in containers slightly lower than cage tops. Water drips in the top of cages. Pumps turn on 4-5 times daily for 30 minutes.

Home Depot and Lowe's have food safety tubing. it will be next to the push to connect fittings. ask someone where the push to connect fittings are and also the tubing to use for that. tell them it's for your fridge water line.

My Mist King is the best thing since sliced bread. It's much easier to maintain than a humidifier and dripper. Since I only have one cage, I just used a small plastic jar for the reservoir. It looks like it will hold enough water for 4 or 5 days. If it breaks, I'll eat more peanut butter filled pretzels and use it's jar, lol. Set up took minutes and I had no leaks at all. It took longer to figure out how to use the timer since I did not look at the pictures as carefully as I should. Knowing the connectors, leaks are unlikely. Use a square or rectangular plastic container for the water reservoir, and it is less likely that the bulkhead will leak, since the surface is flat [unlike a round bucket]. Sterilite or rubber made from Target, Walmart, Lowes, etc....
Marty from Mist King would certainly answer your questions about the system. He responds very quickly too. So email the question to [email protected]
