My veiled chameleons left spur is a little black. We think its a rope burn from a rope so we took it out. what do you think it is?

Left over shed? Picture would be great. I have been reading through your many threads....Could you give us some information on your caging and lighting and the age of your chameleon? Many people need that information to help you out with the best advice! Thanks!

My veield chameleon is 4 1/2 months old and he is 10 inches long.He has a 100wat heat bulg in his cage and an 75 watt uv bulb thing.his cage is a 40gallon.

Is he in an aquarium? 100 watts sounds a bit strong for that age but depends on where you have it. I hope it is not IN the cage. What is UV thing exactly?

Does that mean he is in an aquarium? If they see their reflection they will display their colors thinking it is an intruder-and it is stressful.

he is in an aqurium because the pet store said that was okay( i also asked some other websites too) and they said the bulb was okay too

2 reason-one--I am from Indiana, and 2--the humidity is very hard to keep up there in the winter. The bulb should absolutely not be in cage. A 40 gallon should be OK through the winter or until he outgrows it, but the downsides of aquariums is that they see their reflections and they are prone to getting too hot and too humid causing upper respiratory issues. You should use specific UVB such as the highly reommened ZooMed Reptisun 5.0-and remember UVB does not pass through glass or plastic of any kind. Do you have a pic of the setup? What part of IN?

North west Indiana but i got the bulb you said i just looked at the box but the lights are 4 inches above the cage
Where are you

I currently have a 75 gal. set vertically with my 2 female veileds in it! I thought that this would help keep the humidity in but the hibiscus inside seems to dry out more that the others in mesh enclosures.

Not too much fear of reflections however as the glass has water marks all over it from being sprayed several times daily and then drying out. I would suggest getting a mesh cage if you can but if you must use an aquarium then turn it vertically so your cham has more climbing room and is able to go to the temperature he likes easier. The taller the tank the more temperature gradient he will have to choose from.

I have no idea about the black mark on his spur. As previously stated a picture would definitely help.

Good Luck!

Dyesub Dave. :D

I am from Valpo originally-grew up right there in NW IN! Now in Florida where raising these guys is a bit easier. Which Pet Store did you get him from?
