Charles is not doing good he is going bad to worse:( I am contacting the closest vet in the morning. he refuses to eat and I just found out what mbd is and I am almost positive he has it. I am getting very worried that he will not make it though the night. I have put him in a small 10 gallon tank with a few vines and a towel at the bottom. I also have been giving calcium mixed with water out of a syringe. again it is not looking to good:( I am very disappointed in the information that the "professionals" (NOT) have giving me about how to care for Charles. If anybody has any more tips to help him please it is greatly needed.
Thanks

Well can you give us a little more information? Maybe some pictures?? Who are the "professionals"??? People on here or somewhere else??

The chameleon in your avatar pic does not appear to have MBD. I searched through your threads and you posted a recent pic of your chameleon and his front leg does appear to have signs of MBD. So between the time you got him and now, something must not be right in your set up. What kind of lights are you using? Are you sure you have a UVB light for him?

I am very sorry about last night I did not have a lot of time. I was referring to the "professionals at petco that claim that they are experts but gave me all the wrong information. I actually took Charles to the vet today and got a shot of antibiotics. I also picked up a UVB bulb for him today. My avatar pic is not Charles( sorry for the confusion) i just realized that I have had the wrong lights in his cage. The lady at petco suggested two
Eco terra day bulbs for the only lighting in his cage. Again sorry for not clearing this up last night
Thanks

Yeah, the majority of the employees at Petco do not know much about the intricate care of chameleons. Sorry they caused you so much distress. People here tons of knowledge, so it is good you are here. If you have not already fill out the how to ask for help form. You should get a linear reptisun 5.0 bulb for your Cham. That is most likely the cause of the MBD. I wish you and Charles the best!

Why did the vet give antibiotics? Does he show any signs of infections such as in his mouth? Overuse random use of antibiotics isn't good policy and exposes him to toxins he doesn't need.

Thank you very much for your support. I am really frustrated from all the pain Charles is going though because of their false information. I got the same exact bulb you we're talking about. I have filled out the how to ask for help already but I will post it in this thread. He seems to be more active once we got the bulb and medicine but unfortunately the vet thinks he has already broken both of his front legs:( he looks like he is in so much pain. I just have a few questions about MBD. First off what is the best way to treat it and how long is recovery? I have already put him in a small 10 gallon glass cage with a few vines and a towel at the bottom. Should I keep him in there?
Thanks

I really don't know why to tell you the truth. I actually was unable to go because I was in school but my mom told me that the vet told her that MBD can lead to other infections but I'm not sure if that is totally correct. He doe a not show any signs of infections.
Thanks

One more question should I keep the UVB 5.0 on during the night just because of his MBD? Actually another I got FLUKERS liquid calcium. It says to put it in food or water bowl but he can't eat so can I give it to him out of a syringe and it also says that I should only give it to him 3times a week could I do it more like 2 times a day?
Thanks

No lights at night at all. Lights on disrupts chameleon's sleep patterns. I do not know the answer to the calcium question. Who told you to give your chameleon the liquid calcium?

I know everyone says that but it's starting to get really cold at night so I really don't want him to get cold especially when he is sick. Also I looked it up on google and the one article said to mix calcium supplement with water. When we went to the vet she said to buy the liquid calcium instead

how cold are we talking? You can get a ceramic heater bulb, that gives off heat and no light. You really don't want to leave on a light at night. Temps can get down into the 50's and you chameleon will be fine, so unless it is going to get colder than that, you don't need heat.

Is your chameleon still in the 10 gallon tank? If so, be careful about overheating him. Keep a close eye on the temps. I'd have him in the original enclosure (assuming screen?), and what some do to minimize the danger of injury do to falling is make a "false" bottom about half way up the cage (you could try a milk crate with a piece of screen, or something like that), and then add some towels on top of that to lessen the blow if he does fall. It is essential that the damage from broken bones be minimized now to ensure a better quality of life when the MBD is under control! Best of luck getting him back in great shape!!!

Sounds fishy to me. If an animal with MBD fractures a bone possibly...but directly? No...I think the vet wanted to justify the visit with some treatment for something.
