I think my veiled might be eggbound.

My chameleon: June. Female veiled chameleon. About 3 or 4 years old. Not exactly sure. I've had her for about a year and a half.

Handling: Not very often. Maybe once or twice a week.

Feeding: Mainly crickets. Also mealworms, waxworms, praying mantisis. And some wild caught moths in the summer. Gutloaded with cricket food and drink from my local reptile store.

Suppliments: Calcium with d3 once a week. Calcium without d3 3 days a week. Vitamin and mineral once a week.

Watering: All my chameleons get misted 2 to 3 times a day for a couple minutes a day. Occasionally I see her drink but I don't normally.

Fecal description: It looked normal the last few days but she didn't go today.

History: I got June (and her mate Johnny) about a year and a half ago. I got them off craigslist when they were about 2 or 3. Their previous owner kept them in the cage together until that point. They have been seperate since that day. She has laid 3 clutches since. All with no problems. One clutch has already hatched. Every egg hatched :) Another clutch will begin hatching soon.

Cage: 6x2x2. Handmade aluminum screening. Laybin at the bottom. 20 inches deep with sand and peatmoss mix.

Lighting: Within the last month I switched to a mercury bulb 40 watt I think. Before that I had a 40 watt basking light and a uvb.

Temperature: Stays about 80 to 85 at the top of cage. Bottom floor is closer to 70.

Humidity: Honestly not sure the percentage. We never have a shedding problem. Live plants and misting keeps it good I think.

Plants: She has a spider plant and a pothos. Also eats collard greens and mustard greens from the supermarket. Washed well.

Placement: I have a whole bedroom dedicated to my veileds. Cages sits on floor and is only about a foot and a half smaller than the ceiling.

Location: Belleville, Illinois

Current problem: I believe that my female is egg bound. Vets office is closed til Monday and I'm not sure she is gonna make it that long. I haven't been paying as much attention to my baby in the last month as I should have. I found out I was pregnant...blahblahblah. I s cc rewed up. I'm not even really sure whay happened but I looked in on her today and she is REALLY dehydrated. Eyes are pretty much flush with her skull and the insode of her mouth looks really white. I was able to spray some water into her mouth but I don't know how much she drank. She didn't eat today. Shes really weak too. She fell from a branch in the cage. About 5 feet above the floor. She broke a nail in the fall. And when I picked her up she didn't hold me, I held her. I love her more than anything and its killing me that she isn't doing well and I can't do anything til Monday.

Start calling around to all the vets that see exotics in your area. Make sure they at least have some experience with reptiles and try to get her in as soon as you can. For now I would just keep her warm and if you try to give her water, be sure that you squirt it into the very back of her mouth/throat so that none gets into her lungs (if the water is squirted into the front of the mouth, it could cause her to aspirate on the water.)

To be honest, from the description it sounds like she is pretty far gone if her eyes are that sunken in. Don't give up. Keep looking for vets that can take her.

i dont know illinois at all so i wasnt able to narrow it down but these are all the vets off of the ARAV list in illinois. i would do what Kara said, try to keep her warm, get some water in her but not in her lungs and call every vet that may have reptile experience and get her in as soon as you can. these vets all are reptile vets!!!

I feel so shitty that I let my personal matters effect her this way. My morning sickness made me sloppy. Its killing me.

just do everything you can for her now and try not to rip yourself up. its important to get some water in her i would say because sunken eyes tend be a sign of dehyration. what do you generally do to provide her water? have you had any luck with any vets yet?

also, congratulations!

also this is a 24 hour emergency vet clinic that is supposed to be close to you. you could call them and see if they have any vets with chameleon experience.

I mist her 2 or 3 times a day. Sometimes I put a few ice cubes on top of her screen. And I have to wait til morning to call a vet. Its almost midnight and my boyfriend has the car til he gets off work at 6am. I'm gonna call when they open.

you can make a dripper to ensure she has access to water all day. what you would do is take a plastic cup or reall well washed out milk jug, pierce some holes in the bottom of it and place it on top of her cage over the foliage so it drips on the foliage and she can drink whenever she wants to. this will help prevent dehydration :)

ahh i see. well let us know what happens when you get a hold of a vet and get her in!
