i want to get to know some of the common members on here!

1.)how long have you had chameleons?
Just over 3 years now
2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)
I had always really, really wanted a chameleon and finally made the decision to just do it. Built my own cage and found a pretty veiled on Craigslist. Turns out he had some MBD in his past and has a non-functional tongue. He's a terribly mean little brat too, but due to his special needs I won't try to pawn him off on anyone. Really wanted one that didn't run when I walked into the room so I could actually look at my Cham so I found a gorgeous young panther on craigslist (different city). Oscar is the absolutely best Cham ever! Then stumbled onto a little Jackson on Craigslist just right down the street and he was too cute to resist! The guy had been trying to sell him for weeks (I did resist the temptation at first!) and I was worried some moron would end up with him. Don't regret it at all! Saw some pygmies at a herp show and fell in love immediately. My little pygs had 9 babies, of which I just have one since I adopted the rest out.
3.)what kinds have you had?
Veiled, ambilobe panther, Jackson (xanth), carpet, bearded pygmies
4.)about how many individuals have you had?
Total was 16 I think. Not enough ;)
5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)
Oscar is super friendly and so handsome so he's my current favorite, but I adore my little pygs, and my cute little Jackson Buster!
6.)tell me about the ones you have now (pics?)
I think I jumped the gun and answered this one already :D I have posted lots of pics of my guys
7.)any other pets?
18 year old iguana (also a brat), two 80 pound sulcatas (still growing!), 2 ornate box turtles, 5 three-toed box turtles, 2 gopher tortoises, 2 dogs (hound mix and pug), and a kitty
8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?
When in doubt, ask questions! UVB and calcium are absolutely critical to a healthy cham so make sure you know about those. And if you aren't familiar with gutloading you should start looking into it now - also very important! They are not as fragile as people think, and if you start off right they do fantastically well.
9.)any questions for me?
What work do you do, or want to do?

1.)
9.)any questions for me?
Are you ready to be infatuated with a lizard to the point that its food will eat better than you do? Obviously you are, so no real questions yet..........

It's sad, but in a good way how true this statement is lol

.)how long have you had chameleons?

I got my first veiled about 3 month ago

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)
I have always wanted to get a cham, since I was a kid, so I finally got hooked

3.)what kinds have you had?
I have 3 veiled, 2 males 1 female
4.)about how many individuals have you had?

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)
I would say that Im partial to veiled, Love them
6.)tell me about the ones you have now (pics?)
My first one male Pasquale (all named after the movie Tangled) he is about 6mo, he is great, loves people, eats out of my hand, he great, My other male about 2mo, (he was anoops, was suppose to get a female, but ended up with Maximus, He is a little shy, so we are working on that. and my little girl(company was nice enough to send me her at no charge because of the mix-up)her name is Tangle, she is 2mo, very friendly

7.)any other pets?
I have 2 shetland sheepdogs, 3 horse, 24 chickens, 1 cat
8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?+
I would love any advice any of the senior members can give

Hmmm This seems kind of fun. Worth a little of my free time I suppose.

1.)how long have you had chameleons?

I have been keeping chameleons since 1999. I got my first chameleon from Ed and Liddy Kammer. Things got nuts in 2007 when Tiki was born...

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)

-It all began when I was bitten by a chameleon in a pet store in CA that was kept free range. He walked onto my head while I was looking at a tort and when I went to pick it up WHAM. I have had a bad case of the chams since then.
-I have made countless mistakes and still do all the time, I learn new things every day. I am still very much a nOOb.
-I have been able to work with some amazing animals, some amazing people and am lucky to have awesome customers. Love it...

3.)what kinds have you had?

We are currently working with Panthers (Nosy Be, Ambilobe, Sambava, Ambanja), Carpets, Verrus, Brevs, and Quads. I have HAD lots.

4.)about how many individuals have you had?

Lots and Lots...

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)

My personal fave is my Duke line of Nosy Be panthers. The color and personality are great on almost all of them. I also like working with Verrus alot, they are a blast and not kept enough.

6.)tell me about the ones you have now :) (pics?)

I dont have the time.

7.)any other pets?

Two dogs a yorkie and beagle. I have geckos, torts, dragons, reef tank, a few frogs. I live the life of a zoo keeper.

8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?

Setup is key. Chameleons are easy to keep if you give them what they need. You get what you pay for, dont skimp.

9.)any questions for me?

I seem to have lost my number... Can I have yours?

1.) How long have you had chameleons?
Going on a little over two years now, and hopefully will have then for a lot longer.

I can't believe in my list of chams, I forgot Rah, my meller's, thanks, Olimpia for reminding me.

see laurie i told you that you didn't want that baby so i'll be waiting for you to send him my way.

but my first so called cham was anoles back when they were suppose to be or considered chams back in the early 80's but 95 when i got my first pair of jacksons i was hooked now i got a whole bunch but have to seperate from alot of them due i'm moving for a government or state job after the new year so i'm only keeping blaze and pandora my ambilobe panthers all others are for sale!!!

9.)any questions for me?
Are you ready to be infatuated with a lizard to the point that its food will eat better than you do? Obviously you are, so no real questions yet..........

haha i already have a 5 star menu written up for my chams feeders ;)

Yeah, I can tell you'll be popping up on the 'addicted to chameleons' threads very soon.........here's a question I thought of - what other reptiles have you kept?

Yeah, I can tell you'll be popping up on the 'addicted to chameleons' threads very soon.........here's a question I thought of - what other reptiles have you kept?

personally, i havent kept any :( i wanted an anole for my 10th birthday and got a guinea pig instead -.- and my mom doesnt even let snakes within 10 feet of her house...soo, i hijacked my brothers turtle, i took care of it, not him :p and a couple friends of mine have bearded dragons, pythons, ect. and ive taken care of all of them while they go on vacation :) not just weekend vacations either, usually around 2 week ones because they know i take care of the animals well :)

horses

what kind of horses? :)

Quarter horse mare (26yrs) owned since she was 3, Morgan cross gelding-14yrs, rescued. QH/mustang-rescued her from a rescue 3month old(both her and her mom was heading for slaughter, the rescue pulled them both of the truck ,she is now 2yrs

1.)how long have you had chameleons? At least one starting in 1995 until 2010

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)I saw Gimli, an opinionated 4 month old veiled at a NJ pet store and stopped in my tracks. I'd always heard about chameleons and that they just didn't survive in captivity. When I found out he was bred locally and not some miserably doomed wc import I grilled the shop manager for an hour about care, bought their one battered copy of Phillippe de Vosjoli's book (at the time the only cham care book readily available), read it cover to cover in a toll road parking lot because I couldn't wait until after the 2 hour one way trip home. Spent a happy week collecting everything for a setup, drove 2 hours back and bought him. He was a pretty mellow male; or perhaps I didn't expect him to be anything other than himself. He lived about 2 years but I lost him to a ruptured bowel. I had moved to a new rental house with central AC. At that time "we" still considered veileds to be dry climate herps and I trusted the cheapo analog humidity gauge in his cage. It had stopped working weeks earlier. After a clueless vet tried an enema and an anti-parasitic to get his system going again his bowel ruptured and he died in my hands later that evening. I became the local cham rescuer and terrorizer of bad pet shops, was a periodic author for the CIN Journal and the Chameleons online e-zine and got to travel around Madagascar with Ardi Abate and Ken Kalisch for a month about 11 years ago.

3.)what kinds have you had? Veiled, jackson's, 3 sp of fischeri, verrucosus, melleri, cristatus, deremensis.

4.)about how many individuals have you had? 2 veiled, 3 jackson's, 3 fischeri, 1 verrucosus, 4 melleri, 1 cristatus, 2 deremensis

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type) I'm not sure I could pick a favorite of mine, because I liked them all for different reasons. Many were rescues from bad situations. Maybe my 1 large sc female melleri as the nicest one. Favorite type? Wow, that's even harder! If I had complete free choice of a species it might be xenorhinum or willsii.

6.)tell me about the ones you have now :) (pics?) I've been cham-deprived for a while now because I'm a 30 minute air taxi flight from a general dog/cat vet and a 3 hour jet flight from any sort of specialist. And, having air taxi pilots carry little boxes of live insects inside their jackets to keep them from freezing on their way over here from the pet shop isn't guaranteed. Some of them are not very cheerful about the roaches or crickets!
7.)any other pets? I've kept Malaysian leaf frogs (3.4), ball python (1.0), Henkel's leaf-tailed gecko (1.1), a 4 ft. blue-tailed monitor (0.1 for about a week when a neighbor called me to get the "alligator" out of their woodpile. She lived in my guest bathroom under the vanity and the tub until I tracked her owner down in Atlantic City miles away. She'd torn through a windowscreen a week earlier and he was frantic to get her back), bearded dragon (1.1), Pekin robins (1.1), cockatoos and Amazon parrots, rescued Australian cattledogs (1.2), a gold-fronted leafbird (1.0), Swainson's toucan (1.0), blue-crowned motmot (1.1), box turtle (0.1), and various rehab wildlife critters including a little brown bat named Bert. I'm expecting a pair of purple honeycreepers and a pair of black-faced dacnis in a couple of weeks.

8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?Expect the unexpected, never assume you know it all or reject a new idea, keep the species you love the most even if you are new to it, be ready to to whatever it takes to give them a decent life. Your needs come second.

9.)any questions for me? Not yet.

im pretty sure this will benefit more people than just me :) thanks![/QUOTE]

Same as me, except mine was the last one in the shop and the shop was just round the corner, lol
Maybe the same book I had.....Same author anyway, and it was a good one

Hello amanda

1.)how long have you had chameleons?
more than ten years. I stopped counting. :)

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)
a single male panther pet. plenty of mistakes (and not much in the way of helpful resources that I could find at that time) but he lived over 7 years so I guess that was an accomplishment for a beginner.

3.)what kinds have you had?
panthers. that's still enough for me, for now.

4.)about how many individuals have you had?
22, not counting ones I've sold or fostered

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)
the first, Simon, and one of his sons, Gimlie, in terms of personality. The crosses are my favourits in terms of looks. So I guess that makes Gimlie my overall favourite, since he's both.

6.)tell me about the ones you have now :) (pics?)

7.)any other pets?
Bugs, Birds, Frogs....
https://www.chameleonforums.com/members/sandrachameleon-albums-sandra-s-other-pets.html
used to have cats but cant have any more as my partner is allergic

8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?
research is your friend, offer as much prey variety as you can, breed at least one type of bug for yourself, always keep some money saved up for "just in case"

1.)how long have you had chameleons?

I first started with chams briefly in 2005 for about a year until I moved to Oregon from California. From there I restarted in May. Many things have changed since then!

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)

In 2005 I started caring for my teacher's veiled she had in the classroom. It was quite a strange "pet" to have in the classroom. The veiled "Prince" was quite temperamental and had bit quite a few people. With patience I had somewhat tamed him to not become so stressed with human contact and he actually seeemed to enjoy being outside.

Around last April I started looking around for chameleons. Unfortunately I didn't have much luck with panther I bought locally. He had neurological issues that I had not been told about and he had to be euthanized at 6 months. It was definitely a sad learning experience but I learned a lot.

For now my greatest accomplishment is seeing both my chams grow and stay healthy!

3.)what kinds have you had?

Previously I had a veiled and a panther. Currently I have a Hoehnelii and Kinyongia Multituberculata

4.)about how many individuals have you had?

Had about 4 chameleons, hopefully won't be adding too much more ;)

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)

I love my Kinyongia, Herbie. He is the gentlest and most curious cham I have even encountered. However, I also love my Hoe. Both my chams are very friendly and enjoy coming out of their cages so I don't really have a favorite

6.)tell me about the ones you have now (pics?)

I bought Herbie from Seeco at about 9 months old in June on my birthday. Then I bought my Hoe from Tiki Tiki Reptiles in July at about 5 months old

7.)any other pets?

Oh boy... I've two standard poodles (Biz and Orion), kitten (Foster), betta fish, and dutch warmblood gelding (Deezel)

8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?

Be smart and do your research. A lot of questions just require common sense and a lot of effort on your part to keep your cham healthy. Just do your best and you should have a happy cham

9.)any questions for me?
Not necessarily, most have already covered the basic questions. Just make sure to take the best care of your cham as possible.

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)

wow! i wish one of my teachers had a cham, that would be soo cool!

a dutch warmblood? those things are gigantic! :) i only have a teeny arab/qh mare XD she maxes out around 14.2 :p

1.)how long have you had chameleons?

My daughter started buying chameleons in 2004. I got Luie my very first chameleon of my own in 2007.

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)

I started off by helping my daughter with her chameleons. She was a small time breeder and I helped with the babies and would keep all of her chams for extended period of time while she traveled.

3.)what kinds have you had?

Personally, I have had my veileds, panthers and a parsonii. I also helped my daughter with her Melleri.

4.)about how many individuals have you had?

The most I have personally had at one time is 10 chameleons, a Cuban Knight Anole and my dog. My daughter has had 30 or more plus babies.

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)

My veileds are my favorite because they have the best personalities.

6.)tell me about the ones you have now (pics?)

I have a little family of 3 veileds, a parsonii named Padre, 5 panthers, a Cuban Knight Anole and a mixed breed dog. Pictures below.

7.)any other pets?

I have a Cuban Knight Anole named Dulce and a mixed breed dog named Red.

8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?

Do as much research as you possibly can and find a good chameleon vet for regular checkups and fecals so that you will have a good relationship with your vet BEFORE you need them.

9.)any questions for me?

How do you like the Chameleon Forums so far?

1.)how long have you had chameleons?
I bought my first guy in 2008.

2.)how did you start off? (how it all began/mistakes/accomplishments)
I became interested in iguanas in college, but knew that I'd be moving around and didn't want to buy anything until I was settled. Then, I realized how large they get and from there became fascinated with chameleons. After I got married, I finally felt "ready" and lurked on here for quite some time just soaking up information.

3.)what kinds have you had?
I started with a purple-barred ambanja from FlChams (I'm lucky to live within 20 miles of him!), and just bought a 7 week old high yellow veiled from Nan Crippen (she's selling them on the classifieds and I can't recommend her highly enough).

4.)about how many individuals have you had?
Only 2, because I have a lot of other critters in the house. However, my husband has said that he'd rather me get more chams than another dog, so I'm curious how far I can push that!

5.)favorites? (personal favorite you have had or a favorite type)
When I got Kibi (the ambanja) I was too nervous to handle him, so he's stand-offish. Now that I have little Kimani, I'm trying to get him used to being handled at a young age, so I can enjoy him a little more - within reason of course. They are both my favorites, but for different reasons. More than anything I want a Mellers but with 2 cats that have claws, I can't free-range, and need to plan out space for a huge cage for them. Someday...

6.)tell me about the ones you have now (pics?)
I just have the 2 but am always in the market for more - just don't tell the hubby! I have some pics in my gallery, just not computer savvy enough to add them here.

7.)any other pets?
I started with a Humane Society tabby cat named Dolce. Then we added Kibi (the ambanja), then came Cricket, a 3-legged cat also from the H.S. Then we decided on getting 3 bearded dragons at a show in Sarasota. Then followed Holli, a rescued Boxer mix, and finally Marshmallow the leopard gecko, and just recently Kimani, the veiled baby. My husband is also creating a dart frog tank.

8.)what advice can you give me as a new cham owner soon?
I lurked on here for months before feeling ready for Kibi, and still I learn all the time. Just be flexible, and know that whatever you are doing it's for the betterment of your animals. No matter how much you plan/research you'll come across something other than expected, so just ask questions here and go with the flow!

9.)any questions for me?
Not a question, but thanks for starting this thread. It's nice to get the background on so many members that I've "stalked" over the years!
