Identifying a cham

Hey there,

I've been looking for a chameleon for quiet a while (they aren't very common around where I live) and these little ones are 99% of all the chameleons I've found, so I just needed to make sure I do my research.
Any help will be great.

Thanks! :)

Nice pictures. First guess is a female C. Arabicas. But most likly falls under Chamaeleo calyptratus. Commonly know as veiled or Yemeni chameleon. I'll have to get out my Nuture's Hidden Jewels book tonight, and see if I can't identify this species for you.

I'm guessing Chamaeleo Oustaleti:eek: ...;)
lol interesting looking...no clue.
That's Furcifer oustaleti, and a little far from Madagascar. I think you might have the O right. Seems to me there is a species found in northern Yemen and into Saudi Arabia. Ch. orientalis. So might be found as far as Kuwait.

I know Steve... At a loss for the real Identity I sarcastically guessed somebody had tried to mate a Veiled with Oustaleti...Looks like an interspecies cross of the two to me, but I was just messin... hence the ";)".

 I just got it, Went right over my head first time. ;);)

That looks like a subspecies of Chamaeleo chamaeleon, perhaps Chamaeleo chamaeleon musae.

EDIT: Steve, I just read your post. It may very well be Ch. c. orientalis, though I don't think it's been upgraded to full species, and thus still remains a subspecies of Chamaeleo chamaeleon.

Nope, no wild chameleons in Kuwait. The habitat in Yemen and Saudi Arabia are very different from what it's like here, there are very little trees so I have never seen a chameleon, not even by mistake :p

My guess is C. arabicus (actually a species I would very much like to work with)
But I have made some legendary ID mistakes ... so please regard the word "guess"

I'm just now seeing this thread. I guess it was posted while I was in Montreal. Anyway, the specimen appears to be one of the subspecies of Chamaeleo (Chamaeleo) chamaeleon but I couldn't tell you the subspecies without additional photos and hopefully original locale data.

And no, there are no chameleons found naturally in Kuwait.
