hes not got any marks on him hes not even shedded yet ive had him 2 weeks and i dont want anything to be wrong with him but hes not acting like hes done before please help me why will he not eat very much and why is he so sleepy i thought it might be because i found a little bit of mould on his bark but i have cleaned it out again and he is still not right :(

Okay

Maybe he is dehydrated, Any pictures? and you should probably take him to the vet
I hope he is okay and good luck.

Little Eragon.........

You must be talking about little Eragon...........Can we get some detailed info on his cage? Cage size, screen or glass, type and size of UVB light source, type and size of heat source, temperature of cage, method and frequency of misting, etc. This will help us figure things out. It looks like you had an issue earlier with him not eating until you got some smaller crickets. Thanks for getting some info..........

Image004.jpg this is his heat lamp

Image005.jpg this is his uv bulb

hope this helps

If possible flip this cage so that it's vertical instead of horizontal. Chameleon prefer tall cage than the long one. (I'm not quite sure whether this is a glass cage or a screen cage.
But it look like glass to me.. Again, the best cage for this guy is all screen.

Your chameleon need a good airflow even more than the humidity... from looking at your pics, i doubt the cage provides a good ventilation..
all 4 sides are woods plus the front is glass...
That cage will be a disaster for his respiration system.

1 thing i see in your post that needed the most attention is the cage itself..
Does your chameleon snores? or sneeze or always lift up his head?

Heat lamp looked fine to me

what kind of UVB light is this? Seems to me that everybody here recommend reptisun 5.0

Can you get a closeup? he looked fine in here..

What are the temp and the humidity of the cage?

Cage set up.......

I second everything dodolah said. A vertical set up works best for chams. Baby chams will do well in a horizontal set up but it looks like your guy is becoming a sub-adult. They really do need screen set ups for ventilation. The amount of misting they need will cause mold and bacteria to grow in a glass set up. Screen cages give them more opportunity for exercise. They can walk around on the screens. Young chams really enjoy doing that. Crickets can walk on the screen too and this provides a better feeding situation for the cham. Chams don't like foraging around on the bottom for food. He looks like a healthy cham though. Does not look dehydrated :)

i asked a pet shop what set up i needed and they recommended this i am now thinking ive wasted my money is there anyway i could adapt it so that i havent wasted my money and suggestions

What UVB light are you using?
What is the basking temperature?
Is there any screened area in the top of the cage?
How are you providing water?

uv light is a repti glo 10.0 basking temp is 85 i spray him morning and night and there are 2 air vents on the back of the viv

my suggestion is somehow change the front glass and the top with screen mesh.
You need at least 2 sides made from screen to ensure a good ventilation.

Yeah. I agree with what everyone else said. I would flip the tank vertical and find a way to make a few of those sides screened... if you can't. THen I would b*tch at the pet store you bought it from and tell them they recomended you product that is actually bad for your pet's health. I dunno what they can do about that, but it's worth a shot. Then use that money or store credit to get a screen cage. OR.. you can buy one of those screen cage tops for tanks. It's sort of an add on to the top of the tank that makes room for a cage top.

Yes .... Yes .... and more Yes! What everyone is saying! It may get a little to warm in that tank without much ventilation. Also ... the air would be fairly stagnant in there I would think.

I have 2 female veiled chams in a LARGE aquarium set on it's end. The top ... which is now the front has a screen door. My other chams are all in mesh enclosures. These 2 females will also be in mesh when I get another enclosure. However because this is a very large tank there is still a good amount of airflow ... and I also have a nearby ceiling fan on low most of the time.

Chameleons like a vertical enclosure so that they can regulate their body temps. If they're too hot they move down - too cold they move up towards the heat source. They also need to be misted 2 or 3 times a day until their enclosure becomes fairly humid.

BTW - You could always try small silkworms to get him eating again!!

Good luck with your little guy!

-Subadult? looks pretty dang small and young to me. Appropriate for a smaller/horizontal cage.
-I dont think he's large enough to require a really tall enclosure. Long enclosures can give plenty of heat zones. It would seem simple enough to add ventelation to a wood enclosure by inserting large screen sections where possible.
-Pickup a couple pots of live Pothos plants (Devils Ivy). Or buy a large one with long vines, and trim them short and replant the trimmings into a scond pot. This will help with humidity and veileds will munch on the leaves from time to time.
-you don't need/want the bark on the bottom. Instead I'd put down a peice of plastic (Corroplast from Home Depot, its sheets of corrugated cardboard) cut to size. Offer frequent light mistings for offering water without letting it collect.

Just wondering .... if you set it vertically wouldn't you likely be able to keep him in the same enclosure a little longer? Perfect idea with the plants ... I'd forgotten all about that!
