interesting/scary situation with my cham

so today, i went to feed my quad chameleon and everything seemed normal. he ate fine, and acted fine. i then misted his cage like normal, and put some water in his dripper. (just a cup with a pinhole in the bottom) I then turned my attention away for a about 5 minutes. when i looked back, i saw my cham doing something odd. i walked over to take a closer look and saw that he was holding his eyeball directly under the drip! not only that, but it was bulging out like crazy and in between every drip he would make it bulge and move around while closed. I realized he must have gotten something in his eye. I couldn't believe that he was using the dripper to try and wash his eye out! I opened his cage and he quickly turned away and tried to hide. he doesn't normally do this so i new something was wrong. I reached in and with my spray bottle i softly squirted some water into his eye hoping to flush the dirt or what ever it was out.
This is where is got really crazy, its like right away he new exactly what i was doing. He actually turned around and came out of his plant up to the front of the cage. He new i was trying to help. He held his head up towards me and would open his eye so that i could spray water in. I wasnt sure it was going to come out so i decided to use a q-tip and very gently try to brush away any dirt from around his eye lid. It was amazing, he held his head perfectly still for me while doing this. I felt that he had so much trust in me. it was a very powerful bonding moment for me and my cham (leon). I was afraid that what ever i was doing was not working, so i turned around and logged on to this forum and began searching for similar problems. I turned back about 2 or 3 minutes later to check on him and to my amazement he was perfectly fine! the eye had completely gone back in and was no longer bulging out and he was actually keeping it open.
im still not sure what was goin on but im very glad he seems ok now. I thought it was interesting how smart these animals actually are. He completely new that i was trying to help him and he was fully cooperating, i feel as though my chams trust for me has grown allot from this. I have only had him for about three weeks now. anyway, just thought this was interesting and would share, sry for the novel!

Ha ha!!

I remember the first time I saw one of my chams with a 'telescopic' eye. Screamed like a girl, them watched him calmly go back to normal. After asking expert friends who had chams, realised they were doing exactly what you said, just cleaning out his eye, the way you would rub at yours if you had something in it.

VERY freaky the first time though!!
