Hiya my female Outstalet chameleon looks a great deal fatter than my male, now people on here have said she might be gravid however I have yet to see her do any digging. She has been over a week like this and now isnt eating as much as 2 weeks ago she was readily eating 2 locusts but now she is eating only one and taking her time to do that?
Is it worth me doing another piccy of her to show you????? Is it worth me taking her to the vets to see if she is gravid???? I dont really want to take her vets incase she is gravid and might cause too much stress for her. So what would u guys (and girls) think I should do????

She is allways in the same place you see at the top back right hand side of my viv and hardly ever moves!!! Can I get you a piccy to see what you think???

Please help!!!!!

Yours worryingly

Here are a few pictures of her just taken by me a few minutes ago:

I had to take her out for the 2nd picture but she is back in now :)

From those pictures I would say she is not gravid. Can anyone else confirm. She looks to be in optimum condition, however for a gravid female is thin around the hips.

What do you mean???? Why is she allways in the back right corner????? My male walks all over his viv but my female is in the same place all day!!!

I do not think she is pregnant. If that is bothering you take her to a vet to see is she is or not. As far as being in the back corner she may just have a shy personality or just has not got acclimatized to her enclosure yet.

How big is her cage? She is not going to have as much as an appetite as an adult male due to females are normally a lot smaller. What kind of basking light have you got? If it is to cool out she may not move much as Oustalets require hotter terrariums more so than most chameleons. Keep the terrarium warm 78-88 and add a basking lamp that provided a spot of 90F plus.

Gravid females tend to turn brownish...That is there non-receptive coloration..When she is showing greens and or yellows they are in the "mood"!!!.If she is within sight of a male that is stressing her out she will tend to stay in one spot...

Thanks it has been a while since I worked with this species. She probably just became gravid because she is thin around the waist (or may not be gravid) and if she is gravid her appetite if she is gravid should increase. If this persists (and if you are in limbo about if she is gravid) and is bothering you I would check with a vet.

What temperatures are you keeping your Oustalet's?

Our gravid oustalets go from green to green with red veins to red and tan. Ours are at the red and tan stage. Hope the picture below helps.
