I am wondering if this is scale rot or something else, could it be damage from a rat?
I try to stay away from live food but there are not too many choices here in Newfoundland.
There is no evidence showing it makes any difference for most species of snakes. It makes the cages look a bit better lit, but its not neccesary for their health.
I would say maybe a rat got a hold of him/her. By the second picture you have it looks like a bite mark. I would put some antibiotics on it. Unless you want to show it to someone at a pet store, but I'm pretty sure.
thanks,
Can anyone confirm that he is a Florida pine snake? I am almost sure that he is but I also have been told he is a northern pine, black pine and some different types of bull snake. I have never seen another snake exactly like him before.
are you saying that my snake could be a hybrid or sub species of a common species??
I really did not think about that, can you give me some examples of other snake species like this??
Like how there are different types of Rattlesnakes. It is definitly a pine snake, the type it is is hard because the normal bands that are in it are faded. I think maybe it is a Florida Pine but in a different phase.
I found out he is actually a paternless southern Pine snake. These are North America’s largest non-venomous snake!!!
good to know.
thanks for the help.
I was wrong in saying that it is the biggest. the longest is the indigo and then some kinda rat snake, but as far a weights go... I think that would depend. My snake is up there in the top three though.
