jacksons not drinking?

New to forum, thought maybe some one on here might have encountered this. Have very old male Jackson's, reptile show rescue, for a month, visually have not seen him drink for a week or so, but poops great, eyes plump, eats good, so I spray him alot to try to encourage, he seems to love the mist downs but still not drinking, is he taking it in another way than oral?

Welcome! Can you describe his poop? What does it look like and consistency of it. Can you give a picture of the poop?

He could be drinking the moisture off the leaves when you're not looking. Some of my chameleons hate being watched when they eat or drink (must be some kind of sacred chameleon ritual)

Looks like a happy guy to me. Do you have a dripper set up for him?

I don't use a dripper, but I mist and spray leaves multiple times throughout the day, as well as spray the cham himself. ill deaf get one that may be the problem, but all my other charms take it right from the spray bottle no problem. And it is super hard to get a good pic of poop. It's moist on the darkside with plenty of uriate.

Do u have live plants in the enclosure? I have a combo of both nd ive noticed they dont drink from the artificial leaves? They dont mine drinking from the fake vines tho..

Yea I have both in there, I think he's super old, and probably wc, and just might be on his way out but a week ago he was slurping off the leaves and drinking from the bottle like a champ...now nada.

Got him from the show a month ago, was drinking, as of the last week no drinking, but eats perfect and loves being sprayed as if he was about to drink, and ill keep at it for minutes, loves the bath, but no gulping, it's weird and o so frustrating.

Mayb hes just camera shy.. Lol just watch for signs of dehydration nd keep spraying his enclosure as usual..

How long are you using the spray bottle on him when you do spray him? I have an old Jackson that takes about 3-5 min on spraying him off and on to get him to drink. I usually have to wait till he kind of licks his lips then spray him. He starts to drink after that. But yes he still might be trying to get used to your cage.

Hi!


1.) If this is the permanent coloration of the animal, something may not be ok with the animal. The consultation of a (really!) experienced vet would bring clarity.

2.) If the sprayed water is to cool, some (when not even most) animals would get stressed in the first place, so they won't start drinking (although they maybe would, if not being "shocked"!).
Use good warm water. Spraying when the animals have already warmed up usually is more conducive.

This morning he took a massive POO, think he might of been blocked up a little, then he preceded to chug water from the spray bottle, he changes colors that's his color when I'm messing with him, I still don't think this animal is 100 percent well, would love to do a vet trip, can't find any clinics who are experienced with chameleons baltimore county know any? lol.

Are you using substrate? There might be something he could've eaten to make him constipated. Why do you think he is not OK?

No substrate, just a roach that was to big, I think he's really old, he has these weird bumps under his skin near his ankle, they don't seem to bother him and they arnt growing so I just leave them alone.

I hardly see my Panther drink too. Eyes are plump and he is really healthy. I wouldn't worry too much useless you notice weird things with him.
