can you wake your chameleon up at nights while he is sleeping my guy loves to be held and sometimes i take him out when he is sleeping

would it put his sleep out of wack ?

i only play with him for 20 min

or is it bad to wake him up

sorry i was just woundering if what i was doing was wrong

I agree with Chad, chameleons need their sleep as much as we do After-all, their great looks don't come without hours of much-needed beauty sleep!:D

I work graveyards, If someone tried to come in at 9 a.m. and pick me up I'd hit em' with a shovel. lol. Chameleon's are not like dogs and cats.

ok so im getting the idea that it really sux to wake them up

but is it the same thing when i turn on my lights they wake up to not all the time but sometimes they wake up when i turn on the lights so i try ti turn them off as fast as possible

tim are you awake?... TIM are you awake??? answer me!!!

Ok try thinking of this ... you know like "logically"

You're a peaceful animal that evolved in an environment
filled with lemurs, night flying bats and all kinds of hungry creatures
that view you as a tasty bit of fresh protein.

You make your living by seeing them before they see you and hiding
as best you can all day long...
when you finally go to sleep you do your best to pretend
to be some sort of leaf or uninteresting bit of something unintersting
because you KNOW that if "they see you... you're dead"

None of that changes overnight.
It's in their blood... evolved and hard wired.

and here you are bouncing in and grabbing your animal
out of his tense and fitful sleep
where he's dreaming of great cricket hordes
nibbling him to death like a gang of insect zombies.
when you reach in and grab him under bright lights
touching him all over and yanking him from his secure branch
where he's mmediately going to think he's going to fall and get seriously hurt
of course he's (she's) going to freak.

They're first reaction is going to the WTF !!! BITE BITE BITE!!!! Defend my life!
I'm falling to my death!
HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Honestly... best to leave them alone and just enjoy their pastel colors
pick them up in the morning with your cup of coffee and let them enjoy the sunshine w/ you.
night time is for sleeping... not touching your kids.
:)

in red I have put in.

Its not reccomended. But you have to remember also that some Chameleons are very "light" sleepers and may wake up when you turn on the light for the room. So you might want to be careful! You might not even notice if you woke him up that way.

yeah take everyone's advice and don't pick him up while he sleeps lol... must be extremely stressful for the animal.

and for waking him because of the light in the room, mine is in the computer room so if I'm gonna use the pc after he's sleeping I make sure to throw a blanket or two over the cage so his darkness is preserved and he can sleep in peace.

Light sleeper?! My veiled sleeps like a dead nazi. There is no waking him up! I used to do bone density checks at night by checking the flexibility of the casque and the jaw. It was seriously like he was dead and rigor.

My herp vet, who raised veileds for years, stresses the importance of reptiles circadian rhythm. He thinks that "night glo" bulbs should be banned because of reptiles sensitive vision to colored light, and light in general. Total darkness, with maintained heat levels is recommended. My veiled sleeps in the closet where I can completely control his hours of light.

No waking the cham while it sleeps!

i guess i get the point loll my vailed alwase wakes up but last ngiht i tried to take him out he alwase wants to come out but he didint wake up even when i touched him so ijust left him

im not goign to take him out at alll at ngihts any more i feel really bad that i have been doing it

If he's always waking up, that's as much of a problem as it is that you're purposefully waking him. Sounds like you need to take steps to control his enviroment a little more.

I'd suggest a big black blanket! Just don't start any fires. Let your lights cool down completely before covering, that would be a good 'sunset' warning for him anyway.

Either that or it might be good to relocate his cage to a room with blinds or shades. Are his lights on timers?

Mine do too, I've read on other sites where people would go into the room and turn the light on and next they knew their chameleon was up lol.
