Juvinile Jacksons Problem

Hello, ive had my Jacksons chameleon for 1 week now, he seems to be doing fine. He is drinking, eating, ect. But SOMETIMES he sleeps during the day. its almost like he is just very bored. I don't know what to do... The temp is about 86 degress F. Please Help

Firstly, how old is he? Babies should be kept with a maximum basking temp of 80F rising to 85F for adults. What is the humidity like? How often do you mist him? What kind of enclosure is he in? Sleeping during the day at all is a classic symptom of illness in a chameleon. Chameleons do not "nap" like mammals. Have you contacted the breeder? Do you have a chameleon vet?

Sorry your cham is having problems.
Jackson's are my favorite chams--they're so sweet.

In addition to reading the Jackson's caresheet that Miss Lily posted a link to.
You would be wise to do what Lathis has suggested-- copying and pasting the questions from https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/ and then addpng all your answers.

It is especially important with Jackson's to prvide enough opportunities to drink , with mistings and a dripper and the temperatures must be lower for Jackson's than other chams need.

Wait... Never mind its just like 1 eye is actually closed. The other one is fine

Actually, that still is something that should be treated.

Your cham may have gotten something in his eye or has developed an eye infection.
Here is something you can try for a day or two to see if it starts clearing up the eye problem.
If it hasn't helped in that time, then it isn't likely that it will and a vet visit will be needed so he can get antibiotics to get cure the infection and to protect his eye from getting permanently damaged by the infection.
It's very important to have chams treated by a vet who regularly treats chams--or at least plenty of other reptiles.



You can rinse your cham's eyes with a gentle saline solution,several times a day which may help him to get the irritant out of his eye.


You want to gently squirt the saline solution into the eye and fill it up so the lid puffs out temporarily.
Even with closed eyes the gentle stream can penetrate the closed lid.

AND have also used this one by Bausch and Lomb

Very often people are given incomplete care instructions or wrong care instructions, so then the cham doesn't get everything he needs to be healthy.
Like other creatures, this isn't always the cause of illness and sometimes they get ill for unknown reasons.

You still haven't said how old he is. 86 is too hot for a baby Jax.

I change the bulb and now its 79 F My cham is 3 months old.

That's fab! 79 is much more comfortable for him. The other bulb may well have been too bright for him causing him to close an eye.
