Hello everyone,
I went to a local green house today and they had kale planted in a pot. So my question is could I use it in my cages? I had never seen it in a pot. They had acouple of pots with green/ yellow and a purple kale in another I was looking at the two purple ones to add color. Any input would be helpfull.
Thanks.

I think that this kale is a non edible, ornamental variety but you can get edible kale seeds (and other plants, too! Dandelion is fantastic) in spring or offline and try growing some in the bottom of pots. I think it is a neat and under used method of cage decoration/ veggie supplementation.

Be sure to use organic soil without perlite or vermiculite. I like to pot my cham plants with all organic topsoil in a bigger pot than necessary and I put a layer of small styrofoam chunks (from packing materials) in the bottom of the pot to help with drainage. An inch and a half does the trick! Make sure you sift the top several inches of soil to keep any large chunks out of cham's reach. I usually cover the dirt with a layer of smooth river stones but that may not be totally possible while growing close-to-the-ground plants like kale, dandelion, lettuce etc.

I asked the owner and she planted the kale from seeds. But didn't know the difference between the two colors. Does anyone know the difference?
