just a side note- this is not ment to take away from Dekuscrub's post https://www.chameleonforums.com/harry-potter-vs-link-78897/ In fact I hope someone educated in harry potter and zelda will step up^^^^^

I've been having this debate with my twin for years, and I think the answer is obvious but I just don't see why people go with the weaker choice

Who do you think would win in a death match to the end, king kong or Godzilla???? To be specific I am going off of the latest King Kong (with jack black) and the 1998 Godzilla. I am not going to give my input right away but I do have very pursuading evidence.
 
Godzilla! i cant help it. love reptiles :D plus he's big and bad and could totally bite kingkongs face off...than again in the movie he breaks the t-rex's jaw. i was so sad :(
 
The 98 Godzilla. No Contest.

King Kong is a beast in the movie with Jack Black but he couldn't touch the 98 Zilla.

Oh and I agree with okiroo; either way I would pick a reptile over a primate :D
 
Godzilla...heck, in all the old movies he has opposable thumbs, I can't see that the big monkey has any advantages. Can he breath fire? No. Does he have a lethal "tail swing"? No. He can climb....oooooooooooh.....that's so cool.
 
Kong's motto: save a horse and ride a lizard! He'll just jump on Godzilla's back and put him in a sleeper hold! :)
 
Ok i think its time for me to weigh in as I can not fight it any longer.

I believe Godzilla is the obvious choice. For many reasons-

1. Size difference. King Kong is like 40 ft tall, while Godzilla is like 200. It is clear when king kong climbs the empire state building. He is maybe 2 stories tall, and takes it forever to get up there right? While in Godzilla 1998, for the short clip showing Godzilla hugging the empire state building.

2. King Kong can't swim. Even if he could, Godzilla would last much longer underwater, as he is a mutated marine iguana.

3. Sure king kong took on, what 2 or 3? T-rex at once. But again size. His jaw is much to large to be snapped by a monkey. Remember a cab fit in there.

4. I believe Godzilla is more resilient as it took submarines and modern day jets to take him down, while being trapped on the bridge.

And if they battled in New York, surrounded by all of that water, Godzilla has a huge advantage. And both are excellent climbers, but king kong is slower due to his size.

5. ALSO, on a look at the species survival, Godzilla wins again as he ( or should I say she?) can reproduce asexually. But King Kong is the last of his kind.

I left out the fire breathing, and tail whip as it was not in the 1998 movie. And yes, even he had man like hands, including thumbs.
 
godzilla wins easily under these circumstances.

the size difference is the major deciding factor here. if they could be scaled appropriately that would easily level the playing field.

so first lets scale them appropriately. lets make kong twice as big and then shrink gozilla down a bit so that they are the same shoulder height. i believe even with that rescaling it leaves godzilla substantially more mass.

lets try to ignore physics and how their physiology would have to be augmented to allow these animals to cope with their sheer mass.

so lets look at primary attributes in this situation, off the top of my head...

king kong is going to have dexterity, agility and intelligence.

godzilla is going to have durability, strength and instinct.

with kongs dexterity that allows him to climb more readily and in conjunction with his intelligence, allows him to utilize the environment to his advantage ie. car sheild, or anything as a projectile. his gorilla physiology and smaller build is going go give him greater agility being able to react or avoid attacks with less room for error.

godzilla im simply assuming would have a thicker hide hence the durability but i also lump all those gnarly scales and claws in with this attribute. her strength goes hand in hand with not only larger mass but the fact that we assume she is a reptile and unlike theropods cold blooded. with being cold blooded you have little endurance but excel with burts of speed. (something i should add to the primary attributes endurance and burst damage respectively.)reptilian instinct is going to allow her greater speed in that there is little thought involved just millions of years of evolutionary programming.

im hoping some of you can chime in with additional attributes or amend what i have portrayed here. for example should godzilla be considered a theropod? obviously then she wouldnt just be a mutated marine iguana. we may have to change the story line a bit. maybe instead of being the product of nuclear tests rather may have come from the island kong did, or make it not just one island but a chain. because if you didnt know that one sank.

it has a lot of concept art, and theres even a page or two on chameleons (though i dont know how they would have made it that far into the pacific)

if youre a fan of dinosaurs and megafauna its a MUST HAVE

its been a LONG time but i used to be obsessed with the old school godzilla movies. but if i recall correctly kong from the old movies had this ability to absorb electricity and it made him (super saiyan) stronger. and godzilla had the flame breath. so we should incorperate those later if anyone cares enough to hash out strengths and weaknesses before we add their super powers. regardless they kind of equal each other out.

I agree. I am not familar with all of the old godzilla/king kong movies but i do believe they were close to the same height when they faced off? In the japanese movie king kong won, but in the old american made movie Godzilla did. So it all depends on who is telling the story.

But we are dicussing pure biology of the animals regardless of the story lines of the movies, only using them as a reference for stats.

With king kong being approx 40ft it wouldn't make since for godzilla to be the same size in the 1998 as a "T-Rex" running through new-york isn't near as interesting as a 200ft tall monster. Its already been done in Jurassic Park 2 But agian, in the older movies I think King Kong was MUCH taller when he faced off with other monsters as they would clearly smash large buildings


we need to do more V.S threads, and hopefully more people will weigh in.
 
yeah im amazed at the lack of interest, then again i feel like there is much smaller population of forum goes visiting the lizards lounge on a regular basis. maybe if we keep commenting on the topic it will take off eventually.

@synapse if i recall correctly godzillas firebreath only succeeded at pissing kong off (after he was thrown down a mountain, and absorbed all the electricity from a transformer) still if we add those super powers into the equation i feel like the essentially equal one another out. i dont remeber who won in that movie but i do remember kong rockin house and me being pissed off about it as an 8 year old.

That movie pissed me off as well. King Kong would never beat Godzilla in a duel. Godzilla's breath is not fire. It is atomic radiation breath... you can't absorb that. You either move or die (especially if you are a mammal with fur). That movie sucked so bad and made no sense half the time. I don't think King Kong could beat any of Godzilla's enemies in fights either. Ghidorah, Destroyer, Space Godzilla and MechaGodzilla would easily crap on King Kong and it wouldn't even be close. King Kong has no ranged moves... he is a one trick monkey. Therefore, in conclusion, in any movie that doesn't suck ass, Godzilla would win every time. Period.
 
While King Kong is probably stronger and faster, he lacks the array of weapons that Godzilla carries. Claws, hard scales, spines, a tail, as well as a fiery breathe attack. These advantages would definitely trump King Kong's agility and strength.
 
I believe King Kong only won in the American version....the one with Raymond Burr. In the Japanese version, Godzilla kicked his ass (as he should).

Yes, I do not think the movies story line dose the monsters any justice as I would suggest using them only for a refernce to finding their physical abilities.


anyone agree the "v.s" series threads should be continued? or no? I know they aren't exactly reptile related in any way, but that is why we are posting in there and they are quite fun ( or atleast can be). Your input is valued greatly.

anyone have another vs topic cause ive got a decent one and no its not Adult Swim’s Flying Shark vs. Flying Crocodile

i still think kong would win btw. throwing cars and trucks and being able to climb. seems like an easy win to me. even if godzillas got a wicked tail whip like a monitor lizard (those things leave welts) all i think of is the incredible hulk where he rips a car in two and uses the halves as fist weapons.

and we still hadnt determined that we would involve gozillas breath or kongs electrically induced super strength and i think it probably should have been left out till we figured a winner for them minus super powers.

really? thought you were on my side haha. o-well. But, a big decideing factor is the size difference on my part.
 
godzilla would whoop king kongs butt but in the american version they had king kong beating godzilla!! which is bs!!!
