Kinkajou Cage Finished

This will be housing a 3 year old female kinkajou. Just got done with it. Just adding some final touches and kink proofing it. :) Definietly glad I am rescuing her. Her curent owner didn't even know she was a mammal. She thought she was an "exotic animal" and insisted she wasn't a mammal. So I had to explain how she's a mammal who's classified as an exotic animal. Her current owner has been keeping her in a cage maybe about 4x4x4, I think smaller even. I'm confidnet I'll be giving her a better life. Even if her rehoming process doesn't go smooth, I feel in time she'll bond with me. It's just going to take extreme patience and persistence. My experience working with ****head horses will be of help. The kinks definitely going to appreciate her new home. Along with plenty of time outside of her cage and outside when weather permits. I'll post pictures of her Wednesday. :)

I would advise a lot more vertical perches and some more foliage. You will need a UVB bulb as well as a misting system. I would also suggest cup feeding because free range bugs will definitely get out with the openings...

Oh, sorry, force of habit . I can't wait to meet your new Kink! Knowing nothing of their requirements I can't really comment on the enclosure, but it looks cool! Hope it works out and best of luck.

I actually thought you were serious at first! Haha thanks! I'm hoping it goes smoothly!

Here's some pictures of her. Her names Leah and she's 4.3 pounds :) She's 3 years old. I've got my work cut out for myself but I think things are going to go well. She's quite sociable. I think the large cage may be a change to her but she'll adjust with time! Happy I got her! Time to start working on an outdoor summer cage now!;)

It always amazes me that any breeder thinks its morally responsible to sell their animals to someone so ignorant. The original owner obviously was unable or unwilling to do any research about what it would take to give this animal a decent life. Seems like there are too many kinkajous needing new homes these days.

Oh definitely. The worst part is being some them bounce around from home to home, never settling down or actually capable of living a healthy life. When I picked her up at the airport, the lady I got her from had 1. Hotdogs, 2. Mashed up Zebra Cakes, and 3. American Chese in her cage for food in the kennel for the flight. Just right outta it! Blows my mind how people assume you can feed animals anything that suites your needs and by the animals and expect them to be healthy. If it's unnatural to them and doesn't belong in their food chain/food web in the wild, chances are they shouldn't be fed it.

And again, part of the blame does circle back to the breeders. I roam around on a couple of exotics sale pages and often see ads for kinks. Nine times out of ten the ad trumpets that they are wonderful pets, easy to care for, loving, etc etc etc. Anyone bothering to do any homework on kinks will soon find out how wrong this is! Unless of course all they intend is to keep the poor thing caged so it can't damage the house, pee on everything, injure someone, and end up psychotic from frustration and boredom.

I certainly blame breeders partially for many animal neglect instances. Many owners have no idea that they're lacking the proper care and nurture for a pet. And the breeders don't give the truth about the pet they're buying. To say a kink is low maintenance is completely false and inaccurate. While they areI all ready have one room devoted to her. She has free range after dark to do as she like. Any animal I own isn't shorter on their care. Luckily I have a very social and good natured kink! They can be loving and very sweet if raised and treated properly. That's a BIG if. Meaning you need to do everything in proper manner.
Wait... Zebracakes? Like Little Debbie snack cakes? And hotdogs? Cheese?!?! Omg, I can't even.
And oh YEAH! Best believe it! I was like damnnn. She had a bad case of the stupids.

I'm still laughing!

It is unreal the amount of ignorance that coincides with animal care, selling, purchasing, etc. I am glad she is in your hands now and eating appropriate food.....though it is quite normal to have Little Debbie withdrawals.

Well come on now. I just couldn't believe it! I think she'll suffice without her cakes lol

Thanks! And yep! I'm from the u.p. of Michigan. I just moved to Indiana recently. Love my wings!

That's where we are headed in two weeks! The hubby is a big Redwings fan, so we go to Detroit for a game every year. Last year, we lost to the Maple Leafs, so hopefully, we will have better luck against the Islanders this trip...
